falling over in early pregnancy

I'm 4/5 weeks pregnant following IVF. I have fallen over this evening. Landed on my hip. Husband doesn't think I've done anyharm. Rang a friend who has had 3 babies and she said not to worry. Just worrying that may have done some harm. Has anyone fallen in early pregnancy?

Am sure you are fine, babies are amazingly well cushioned and protected. If you are anxious maybe ring and talk to the midwife tomorrow just for reasurance.

HTH Smile and congratulations Smile

Oh, yes, fell flat on my back with a thud in the snow when pg with dd. she's 5 and fine, unless the fall caused all the recent PITA at bedtime stuff... But do call MW if you're worried - they're used to reassuring!

Thank you both. Not seen midwife yet, gp done referral but not heard anything yet. Will give gp call in the morning and ask about fall and midwife referral.

Took a right tumble whilst running for the bus. Cut both my knees up and severely damaged my pride Grin. Got up and felt really sick. Thought 'that's weird, and thinking about it I'm 5 weeks late'. (Sometimes I'm not very clever).

DD is 5 now and at 4 weeks gestation also survived lots of rollercoasters at Disney. She is a bit of a daredevil though Grin.

I'm sure everything's fine. Congratulations Smile

I fell down an entire flight of stairs when I was about 8 weeks pregnant, much to DH horror! Apparently it's not like the films & they are really well protected in there. It's only in the later stages they more vulnerable.

Have also fallen over at 24 weeks & fell up the stair again Blush at 33 weeks. All ok unless you land on the bump, then best to get checked.

Congrats on your pregnancy Grin

I slipped on the snow at about 6 weeks, same as you, landed on my hip. Had 12 week scan and all is fine with baby. Like stripey said, they're much better protected in there than we think. I'm sure it'll be fine xx

The embryo is really well attached & protected by the pelvic girdle in the first few weeks, & it isn't unless you fall on the bump, as mentioned upthread, that you need to worry.

I would just take care about yourself though!! Falling on your bottom/hip can jolt your hips & this can be tricky later on in pg if they out of alignment. Just be aware of it & if they start hurting, maybe see a chiropractor, physio or osteopath who is qualified to manipulate pg women, as a preventative. I have dodgy hips & my chiropractor takes credit for my uneventful pg & my DD's quick birth...Wink

I fell down the stairs at 14 weeks (dizzy and rushing too much) and now have a very wriggly baby at 35 weeks, although I'm more careful on the stairs now. Really if you fall early on its very unlikely to damage anything (or rather the baby. I was bruises all over).

Hoebag · 23/03/2012 13:32

I understand everything is a worry,

If you landed on your hip I think u'll be okay, if you had landed on your stomach flat then thats another thing.

keep an eye out for anypain

I read in a magazine a few years ago about a woman who fell from a plane (IIRC she was skydiving and her parachute didn't open), broke pretty much every bone in her body but then found out she was pregnant (very early, just a few weeks) and the baby was absolutely fine. Obviously this is purely anecdotal and I wouldn't encourage pregnant women to go jumping out of planes! But as other have said, the embryo is so tiny at that stage, and is very well cushioned in the uterus and protected by the pelvic girdle.
