Hi! So don't take this as gospel but, it is my understanding that most honey that you would buy in health food stores will have been heated or pasteurised to help give that lovely glossy finish (amongst other things). If honey is raw it would be solid and crystallised.

I have been eating honey all through this pregnancy (31 weeks) as it helps with heartburn. Can't give honey to newborns tho. Hope this helps.

Hi thanks for the reply. It says on the jar that it is raw unpasturised honey from Nz. Nothing else apart from that. I really like it so wanted to continue but didnt want to cause any problems.

hi jelly. i have some raw honey too, from our bees. I haven't been having it during pregancy am going to wait until after. just not sure so thought it was best not to, but I am a bit over cautious! by the way it is the nicest thing I have ever tasted!

There is no advice against eating honey, is it? It's dangerous for babies under 1 year old because of the risk of botulism, but not for adults or pregnant women AFAIK.

I would probably say yes, honey is a natural product and is so high in sugar nothing nasty could survive in it maybe a few sugar loving mould spores that's about it.

honey that you buy from shop has been heated a bit like pasturisation. raw honey is i suppose similat to raw mik not heated so any bac introduced whilst collecting will still be there. it is a super food i am sure and most yummy.
