I will be 5 weeks tomorrow.
Ive had one normal pregancy, 6 mcs.
Previous mc i went to GP at around the 5 week mark to ask for a prescription for very very strong painkillers for when i began to mc like i always do.

This time, im not sure what to do.

So for normal pregnancies, when do you all go to you Drs and what will they do?

When I was pregnant I went into the doctors surgery and he asked for a urine test and checked it was positive, then said i needed an appointment with the midwife for when I was 8 weeks, at this appointment she went through everything with me, such as history, general health etc, questions I had, when you have scans etc and I had to go do a urine sample to test for glucose and a few other things.

The doctor did say I could have just made the midwife appointment but I didn't have a clue what to do.

Good luck, I really hope everything goes ok xx

you just book to see tge midwife at around 8 weeks xx

At my surgery you have to see a GP before you can be referred to a midwife. I suggest you phone the surgery and ask the receptionist how it's done in your PCT - but the sooner you go, the sooner you're in the system as it were :)

really good luck with this one and congratulations.

I normally wait until about 8 weeks, not sure why, but if you want to get on the system to get an early scan, or speak to a doctor about how you are feeling, you might go a bit sooner than that. Having said that, I think you could probably get into an EPU if you needed to without being on their books.

Check what the process for referal to the mw is for your area.

With first pg, I saw the doctor at about 5.5 weeks, mostly because we had an appointment anyway to discuss fertility test results.

With this pg, I was just 5 weeks when I saw the GP as I knew the hospital that I wanted to book into is v popular, and if you don't book early, chances are you won't be accepted. Particularly important for me as I am also out of area.

In your position I would see the GP asap, to see if there is any additional support that you can get (early scans, etc.) given your history.

HaggisNeepsTatties · 16/03/2012 21:58

I would go to the doctor as soon as you can. With your previous history I would have thought they would be able to refer you for an early scan to check everything's progressing as it should

Hi MrsNesbit saw you over on the conception thread - pleased to see you got more than a faint line this time!!! Congratulations.

I too am a bit unsure when to see the GP. although I have a DD. I don't have your history, but I did have a chem pg last month & I'm actually counting my 'wks' as beginning from the mc iyswim. I am really nervous this pg will go the same way! I keep testing just to be sure too.

I think I will ring my GP next week & see if I have to see them or whether I can just go straight to the booking in appointment with the MW, then keep all my digits crossed that I get to 8wks without a hitch.

I think, in your shoes, I would be tempted to do what Haggis says.

Congratulations again & wishing you luck that this pg goes smoothly.

Hi chunky!
Well, i confess to actually doing another 5 preg tests since that faint one...and i still got faint ones that were sluggish to show, but last night i got a nice strong one, so i can safely say...that it is a positive!
Daft old bat that i am! (addicted to cheepo tests!)

I've got to go to GP thinking about it.
I'm going to leave it till next week as i will either need a prescription for 5mg folic acid...OR for heavy duty painkillers, so that's made the decision for me.

Thanks very much for your kind wishes x All the best to you too, it is scary and stressful i know.
