Is it true you should not lift things when pregnant?

We were meant to have moved house this week but it's been put off for 2 weeks. We are ttc but I don't want to be pg and lifting lots of boxes and furniture do I? I would only just be pg, so does this mean there is very little risk at this stage. Does anyone know why you aren't meant to lift things?

Any advice much appreciated!

think the risk would be minimal if there is only a chance that you would be pregnant

Hopingcat - I think its an old wives tale that you are not meant to lift things when pregnant. Unless your pregnancy is high risk for some reason and your dr has advised you. Most mums with toddlers lift then throughout their pregnancy. Or maybe not in the last month or so but thats because you could hurt your back. No risk to the baby.

Good luck TTC

I think the reason (and correct me if I'm wrong) is because your ligaments all loosen up, so you're more likely to strain something. But think would be fine if you're ttc!

1st preg I didn't lift anything, but this time I have an 18month old so have to lift him so have carried on as normal, just not lifted anything really heavy. i don't know what they expect you to do if you have a toddler!!
