It is my first pregnancy, I have an anterior placenta and I haven't yet felt any movements at 22+3, do you think I will feel anything soon? I am hoping to by 24 weeks, or may I have to wait a bit longer?

20 week scan was fine and I was told I'd feel them late cos of the position of the placenta... but I am starting to worry!

Thanks!

I am 37 weeks with DC4, first time I have had an anterior placenta which I had guessed due to late movements, was about 17 weeks for random flutters nothing regular until about 25 weeks!

I felt movement at 17 weeks with an anterior placenta first time round but was told up to 25 weeks was normal.

I am 24 weeks (+4 days) and I have only felt the kicks in the last 5 or 6 days. I have an anterior placenta. I thought I'd never feel them but now she kicks me in the cervix! Grin ouch!

I only felt any movement at 19/20 weeks so it could be any day now! Strangely I can feel her best when I have my hands quite firmly pressed on my bump which makes it all much more obvious. Late at night is best I'm finding as she's jumping around all over the place then.

Doodlegoogle · 14/03/2012 20:38

I wouldn't worry by the way - I was told it could be several weeks before I felt her because of the placenta. But I appreciate its frustrating waiting!

This is my third baby, and the first with an anterior placenta, I'm 29 weeks. I felt random flutters very early on, then nothing much until around 22/23 weeks. I knew what I was looking for, but still found it really hard to feel it. Then she settled into a nice regular pattern of movements, until last friday she just stopped. All I could feel was a few feeble little kicks all day, and obviously I was really worried. I ended up dragging the whole family into hospital so I could be monitored, and it turned out she had just gone right behind the placenta again. Even though I could hear the kicks on the monitor, I still couldn't feel them! Now she is back to normal again, so I guess she has moved to a better position (if you can call using my bladder as a trampoline better!).

Thanks for all the replies, I feel a bit better! I am just dying to feel something, and people keep asking and then looking at me funny when I say I haven't had any movement.

Hubby says I should stop worrying and he reckons I will be moaning in a few weeks time when I am getting poked and jabbed!

Trust my luck having an anterior placenta.

I had an anterior placenta first time round too and worried constantly from 18 weeks until I felt something!! It was finally noticeable at 25 weeks (although I might have missed some nudges because I assumed I had gas Blush).

It's second time around now and I've been feeling kicks since 19 weeks, so I'm guessing this DC has a nice high placenta!!

Ignore anyone who looks at you funny, we all experience pregnancy differently. I know someone who didn't feel her DC1 until gone 30 weeks and they couldn't even blame the placenta in her case!

Catsycat · 14/03/2012 21:59

If people looked at me funny I just told them I had an anterior placenta. they either went "oh, I see" and understood, or ran screaming thinking I was going to tell them my entire gynae history. Either way, it worked. Grin

I've an anterior placenta too. I'm 23w4d and only really felt definite movement last week. However, this week, Bubbs seems to like kicking me just after I get in from work and sit down with a cuppa. It's starting to feel more definite, rather than just vague flutters.
Don't worry though. For me, it really seems to depend on what position Bubbs is in for me as to how much I can or can't feel.

Fraktal · 15/03/2012 17:13

I didn't feel anything until nearly 24w and only then because I was bent right over and got kicked at the top towards the back. Definite kicks. Before that nothing....

Just to update my previous post - I had my 20 week scan today and much to my surprise, the midwife said this baby has an anterior placenta too!! Bit of a shock as I've been feeling movements since 19 weeks as opposed to 25 weeks with DS.

I asked the midwife how that could be and she said 'Oh, I had this with my kids. Placentas in the same place, but I felt one of them really early and he was a really manic baby. Still is actually.' !!!! I don't want a manic baby!!!!!

ShowOfHands · 15/03/2012 19:25

Not really any link between what they're like in utero and personality. I had an anterior placenta with my 1st and had movement at 17 weeks. She's not manic in the slightest. My niece rarely moved in utero and is absolutely manic.

The thing is that anterior just means at the front. It might be at the front and lowish down, right in the middle, off to the right, off to the left, really high up etc. And depending on where it is and where the baby is at any given point, you can expect to feel more or less movement as they interact together. And the placenta tends to attach in different places in each pregnancy as it avoids the scar tissue from last time so your placenta will probably be in a slightly different place so your pattern of movement will be different.

cerys74 · 15/03/2012 22:11

It is reassuring that you haven't noticed any link between in utero and ex utero (is that a thing?) behaviour showofhands - I feel better now! I also didn't think about how the definition of 'at the front' might be a bit vague.

I am 26 weeks with an anterior placenta. It's my first and I got really worried when I passed 20 weeks and couldn't feel her. I definitely sympathise about the funny looks people give you when they ask if you can! Anyway I started to feel her a bit a couple of weeks later. I still only feel her occasionally what she kicks down or round the sides. Both my MW and 20 wk ultrasonographer said I might not feel her regularly until around 28 wks when she is big enough to kick around the edges. We've found a home doppler reassuring because it lets us listen to her heartbeat and hear her kicking even if i can't feel it. Good luck and don't worry!

Mikocat · 16/03/2012 09:30

I have anterior placenta and didn't start really feeling anything until 23 weeks, so I'm sure you will be noticing something soon.
