Currently 33 weeks but was hoping to stay on at work until 37 weeks. Bottom line is that I just couldn't do it. Work involves sitting at computer for 9 and 10 hr shifts, and due to third trimester swelling of hands and feet, I was desperately uncomfortable and knackered every day. Decided to reduce my hours but was still completely shagged at the end of each day.

Anyhoo, have stopped earlier than intended and feeling like a bit of a wimp. :(

Don't feel like a wimp, I didn't suffer so much with hands and feet but got big fluid filled cysts in my tummy under my bump. Midwifes kept shaking their heads at the size of gargantua baby because my bump measurement was so huge. Between my whale like proportions and sciatica I only just mad to to 34 weeks.

DC was a perfectly normal size in the end.

Put your feet up (good for the ankles) and watch crappy tele.

WyrdMother · 13/03/2012 17:37

Made it to 34 weeks, not mad.

Though I was pretty mad to

Currently watching Midsomer Murder. So shit, it's good. :)

I completely understand. This week is supposed to be my last (have just turned 35 weeks today) before going off but I am seriously struggling with swollen feet and ankles (and pain) and can hardly walk up/down the stairs. I am in tears as soon as I get through the door which cannot be good for the baby. But I am just feeling so massively crappy. And people telling me "Oh, it's only 3 more days", I could murder them. Only 3 more days if you are feeling well, not when your feet resemble a 90-year old's and hurt. And no footstool at work is high enough like the living room coffee table.

At the same time I feel massively hacked off at the whole thing.

Friday, Friday, Friday....

ChineapplePunk · 13/03/2012 17:48

balkanscot That's exactly what I was like. Used to flop onto the bed and sob incessantly when I arrived home each night. :(

Oh! Envy Wish I could do this. I'm only 27 weeks but work are taking the piss.

Today I had to teach ALL of my year group (2 classes) all afternoon, with no support, even my statemented child, who's legally entitled to 1:1 support was unsupported and no one had even asked/told me. Sad

I fell asleep at 8pm last night...

My mantra is 'only 7 working weeks to go'

Hotpotpie · 13/03/2012 20:12

I sorted out starting my mat leave early too, tomorrow is my last day and today and yesterday have been the longest days ever!

Yummymummyyobe1 · 13/03/2012 20:16

I have 12 working days left until I go on leave and will be 36 weeks. xx

Dont feel Like a wimp pregnancy is bloody hard work! I'm 33 weeks as well and starting to feel like I'm coming to the end and my plan was to work to 38 weeks! I manage a small private business & have 3 staff members - well did have until the company owner decided to sack one last week - and the other walked out because it was her friend (they were young), so now there's me and 1 other person which means I'm working 8.15am - 8pm 5 days a week and 10-3 on Saturday's which is killing me. I'm so stressed and exhausted by it I'm also coming home crying.
Managed to get a day off today and feel like a new person.
I'm ready to do 3 days a week now for another 2/3 weeks and then none.

Enjoy your leave you deserve it

mummybare · 13/03/2012 21:54

I also finish on Friday (35 weeks) and it won't be a moment too soon. Like you, OP, I sit in front of a computer for 10 hours a day and it's blimmin' uncomfortable. I don't blame you in the slightest for finishing early - there's no way I would be working up to 37 weeks.

We're not wimps - we're growing brand new little humans here!

stripeyZ · 13/03/2012 21:57

I went 32 weeks as i couldnt do it any more (nursing) & felt so much better for it. Being on my feet all day, feeling like shit was awful. Everyone said I'd be bored but not at all!

Don't feel like a wimp - pregnancy is harder work for some than others & you need to do what's right for you Smile

SarryB · 14/03/2012 12:53

I applaude every woman who continues to work during pregnancy - I'm 34 weeks, and haven't worked full-time since about 18 weeks. (due to moving to another area because of partners new job, and no-one wanting to employ a pregnant lady). I was a nursery teacher.

I've been child-minding for 3 days a week, and I find that hard enough - I can't imagine having to do any paperwork or official bumbf on top that I would be doing if I was still doing the nursery teaching. And this is the last week I'll be child-minding.

You are not a wimp. You are growing a human inside you. Anyone who doesn't think that is hard work can just piss off.

missingmymarbles · 14/03/2012 15:07

like stripey i am a nurse and i'm not even trying to work that long. i have booked my mat leave to start at 30 weeks, partly due to holiday entitlement and partly due to the fact i had a rough time at the end last time and i have been ill and completely exhausted since the beginning of this pregnancy. it can't come soon enough; i am counting down in terms of calendar weeks, working weeks (as one of the calendar weeks is a holiday week) and shifts. i am sure that my colleagues probably think i am slacking or wimping or something Hmm but i don't care anymore, i feel and have felt like sh1t for the last 5 months. i'm still working as hard as i can, which probably isn't helping how i feel, but i can not wait to walk off that corridor for the last time!!

stripeyZ · 15/03/2012 11:44

Missing - pleased it's not just me then! I was made to feel like a wimp by those that either worked "until the week before" or the never been pregnant. Most my colleagues really helped me out thought, which I was v grateful for.

I had a rough time too with morning sickness up to 28 weeks. I spent most my shifts heaving in the sluice! Everytime someone vommed I would have to run in the other direction. Not v professional but what can you do?! Lots of times I felt like asking my patients if I could borrow their bed for a bit Grin

So pleased to be off.
