19 weeks and have a anterior placenta. Dying for first kicks so fear what I think might be them might in fact just be very wishful thinking...

So on a couple of occasions when I've been on my left side at night I've felt what I describe as a sort of 'gentle prod/ flick' type feeling - a couple of inches to below and to the left of my tummy button. I've also had it a couple of times when sitting on the sofa during the day. Sameish place.

The midwife assumed I'd have felt by now and when I said 'maybe' responded 'well is it like a fluttering?' Well no, not really, is the answer, so does that mean, no it's not a kick... ?

Also, presumably it's quite unlikely to be a kick in the same place every time, yes? I've just got a bit of wind haven't I?! Ho hum. x

I would say its a kick.x

I have an anterior and didn't feel my first kicks until 20 weeks. It it is hard to describe and would only feel it at night when lying down as well. :)
I felt them right under my belly button every time when I did feel them.

I don't have an anterior placenta, but was still late in being definite that I was feeling kicks. Was about 21 or 22 weeks when I was sure and the sensation was a twitch just to the left of my belly button when I was sitting on the sofa in the evenings. Was only in that very precise same place for a good 4 or 5 days. Sounds like you've got kicks to me!

people kept asking me if i felt 'flutters' but its never felt like a flutter, lol. its always felt like a little prod/kick. i felt it first at 18wks and im now 22wks and its ALWAYS been in the same place, so yes you must be feeling kicks :)

PrincessWatermelon · 10/03/2012 20:55

Sounds like a movement/kick. My first were at 20+3 (also first and anterior placenta) and was when I was dozing sitting in church.

To me they felt like a big bubble coming up through a thick liquid. Like custard on the hob on a slow boil. A kind of "gloop". Not a fluttering at all.

I felt a couple together, then another couple of the next few days. Then full on kicks!!

Enjoy!!

It sounds like baby movement. PrincessWatermelon explained those early moves realy well. I actually thought it was wind. At almost 33 weeks baby moved more everyday. xx

I think I felt what felt like 'flutterings' with DC1 between 16 and 17 weeks. With this one (DC2) I have been feeling what you have described since 15 + 2, I had wondered the same thing but its a week later and it's still the same. I'm pretty sure they are kicks now as they are becoming a lot harder and more frequent. :)

I had an anterior placenta with ds and that's what his first movements to me felt like at 18 weeks - like a gentle flicking from the inside. Congrats Grin

From my experience I'd say you KNOW when it's the baby no questions asked, I was nearly 20 weeks with mine, I thought if felt the baby for about a week then I definitely did and there was just no buts or mabyes about it I loved it!!

PoweredbyHotMarmite · 11/03/2012 11:31

Sounds like how mine were and I'm only four weeks ahead of you so I remember pretty clearly. Also have an anterior placenta. The early ones were absolutely tiny but I would describe it as a 'flick' too.

Oh thanks so much all! How exciting! Can't wait to feel the next one now! Promising her I'll take it seriously this time - poor thing trying to say hello and getting accused of being wind! x
