Is it normal for baby's movements to change around 30 weeks?

Hello,

I am 30+2 and for the last few days, I've noticed a change in the type of movements I can feel. I'm not getting any big kicks or pummelling, but I am getting lots of little nudges, and quite a bit of wriggling / turning.

Is that normal? I'm thinking that the baby is going to be quite big by now so maybe she doesn't have the space to do enormous donkey kicks any more?

The number of movements i can feel is still quite similar and I have a DIY doppler thing which shows her heart rate is still the same as it usually is.

I don't know if I should call my midwife (who is rubbish so I'd be quite keen not to) or the hospital ... or just chill out!

Any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated,

Smile Thanks

Sounds normal to me Smile around this time growth spurts mean your lo is getting rather squished in there so you will feel more turns and nudges than rolls and tumbles! I'm 35weeks with my second still feel the odd kick but they're so much stronger it can sometimes knock me for six lol its only when the movements dramatically stop even after a cold or sugary drink then call your local hospital. Don't hesitate, I did this with first pregnancy during a heat wave, they take you seriously and have a little listen to babies heartbeat and make sure all is alright. If in doubt give your midwife team a call Smile

I'm also 30 weeks & at my last mw appt she said as long as there's 10 kicks in 10 hours and no major changes (like nothing all day if you normally get kicks after eating) the different types of movement as they grow and change position to head down is perfectly normal. If you get concerned have a look on the count the kicks website (on phone so can't link) which has helpful advice and a chart for tracking movements. Good luck! :)

Thank you both!

I called the maternal assessment unit and they were great; they said that as long as I am feeling movements, it doesn't matter so much whether they are particularly strong or not.

They were very happy for me to go down to the unit to monitor the baby's heart rate but suggested that, unless I was particularly stressed, I kept an eye on the kick count this pm and see how that went.

Thank you again, very reassuring to hear your thoughts; I wish you both all the best with your little people,

xx
