The chances of getting listeria are really low arent they?
I forgot you couldn't have soft blue cheese and I've had loads. I'm at that sickness stage and blue cheese on crackers is all I fancied for a few days.

I wouldnt worry hun, the chances are really low! its just "be on the safe side" advice. Try to fancy something else now though eh? ;)

Interesting article that someone posted the other day:

Thanks for that link Sweetpea. I feel much better now.
It's terrible that we get such misinformation.

It's up to you to make an informed choice.

I know somebody who did contract listeria from cheese when pregnant and very nearly lost her baby (luckily both were OK, though baby was born prematurely and both baby and mother were very ill).

Anyway the chances of getting it are still quite low, though pregnant women are more susceptible, apparently. But presumably you'd know by know if you had contracted it.

Anyway if you do really crave it again, you could try cooking with it instead (melting it on toast, or something)

So is it true that blue/ rinded cheeses are ok if cooked? I asked my midwife and she wasn't so sure but it would be great if it's true! Really missing stilton...

exexe · 09/03/2012 13:07

Thats true gastrgnome but it would help if we got given decent info in the first place to enable us to make a choice.

According to that article, apparently only 3 people have caught listeria in this country in the past 20 years. So more misinformation then unless that includes the person you know?

Stilton is ok in any form- Here

gastrognome · 09/03/2012 22:05

My friend was in France, but it was a while ago.

Not trying to disprove the stats - I think that for me the risk was made more real due to knowing somebody who was actually affected.
