Measured small today, scan tomorrow - what should I expect?

35 weeks today. Two weeks ago I was measuring 33cm so bang on, today I'm measuring 32cm (that was her second attempt, first time she said 31).

MW sent me to the FAU, and they did a trace which was all fine, but they've referred me for a scan tomorrow. The speed they've managed that makes me think it's urgent.

I don't really know what to expect tomorrow. I'd like to think it's all going to be fine and it's just that everything's shifted a bit, but I'm worried by how speedily they're acting on it; and also that I've lost a cm, not just not gained them.

I'm sure this must happen often, so can anyone give me some idea what to expect please? What happens if it is because the baby isn't growing so well or I've lost fluid?

TIA

Thanks Flisspaps :) I haven't posted on it because I'm rubbish at keeping up with them (well, I was last time and this time I have even less attention for it) so I would feel like a total fraud joining in at the last minute Blush

Hi imp, I just wanted to drop in and try and add a bit of extra reassurance.

The poster upthread who said that 35 weeks is a great place to be in terms of how far along the baby is developmentally is absolutely right. Your experience happened to me from 20 week scan where DS2 didn't even get any of his measurements on the chart he was so small. Then the outlook was very gloomy but by some miracle he made it through to 37 weeks when I was induced because fluid was low. During the whole pg he was below the bottom of the chart and born on 0.4th centime, but absolutely fine.

To put things into perspective, drs consider 37 weeks full term (development is pretty complete, after that babies mostly just get fatter) and they consider 28 weeks a point for a good outcome for babies born and transferred to SCBU - what we were told to hope/aim for at 20 weeks Sad. If they are happy to leave you for two more weeks and do another scan then I am sure everything will be fine, try and relax as much as you can Smile

ImpYCelyn We've got people joining in all the time - don't worry about feeling like a fraud waiting until the last minute. I've only been on there a couple of weeks and feel like I've settled right in and they probably wish I'd bugger off hogging the thread Grin

Hi - I had a very similar situation a few years ago - bump hadn't increased in size between 38 and 41 weeks, and a late scan at 41 weeks showed that the baby's stomach measurement was small. But blood flow to the placenta was fine and as someone has said already, that's the key thing. In the end, I had a healthy baby after induction at 42 weeks, weighing 6lb7, so really not that tiny (I'm small myself). So long as they keep monitoring you to check the heart rate, and you're getting lots of movement. I wouldn't worry too much. Good luck!
