Which hospital in NW3?

So, if you live in NW3, which hospital would/did you choose for prenatal and birth? Why?

I went to the first GP appointment today and had to choose one. Of course I can change it later, but guess it would be better to stick with one from the beginning.

(I've been to one of them for DS, and I'm choosing a different hospital this time, but I would like to hear your opinions before I talk about it).

So I'm not 100% on my postcodes but if this is the central North London area then I had very good care at the Whittington in Archway. Fairly horrible building mind.

Thanks Gonzales2, the Whittington is one of my options. The others are Royal Free (been there, didn't like) and UCH. How was your experience at the Whittington? Normal birth? How long ago?

(sorry for that many questions, but during my first pregnancy I went to Royal Free without thinking too much, and regret it)

Yes normal birth - was in for a few days being induced and then drip/epidural. Depending on what sort of birth you want they have a very shiny midwife-led unit or the usual hospital route. I suppose I just felt the whole process went smoothly and the staff were always incredibly positive but I had fairly low expectations so maybe that helped. (For no particular reason)

oh, and it was 2010. (Although seems a lifetime ago!)

Hi, I'm currently going to UCH (26 weeks) and they've been great so far.

I'm high risk, so I've seen a lot of them. I went to Royal Free previously (miscarriage) and was not impressed at all. At UCH, all the doctors and midwives seem much friendlier, and I don't feel like they are trying to provide one size fits all solutions, which I like. That said, we'll see how I feel after the event!

Thanks, Gonzales2, I also had DS in 2010, and it feels like ages ago. Do you know if it's possible to stay in a private room after the birth at the Whittington?

Josie314, thanks, please come back to tell us about the birth! :) I have a friend who's had 2 c-sections there and I suppose she's happy (well, she went back for the second, after all). I have a feeling (it's just a feeling) that I would trust more the UCH for a high risk pregnancy.

I love the idea of having more friendly doctors and midwives. I always thought the not very nice treatment I got at the RFH was the rule in all hospitals. Glad to know it's not :)
