Smoking and pregnancy

Hiya...So I'm 25 weeks and stopped smoking completely as soon as I found out I was pregnant. I've found it okay and dont miss it...that much. I've been really really stressed recently and yoga, breathing strategies and exercise just arent cutting it! Would one marlboro light be really awful?? My mum says one or two during pregnancy (as long as it is just one or two) isnt the end of the world and wont affect the baby, as does my best friend...but I dont know! Any thoughts??

If you've stopped for all this time why start again now? Yes it is that bad. Have some chocolate instead.

SpottyTeacakes · 06/03/2012 19:35

Also one or two will turn into a whole pack etc plus you don't really want to start up again once baby is born. You've done really well so stay strong for your tiny baby Smile

DonnaDoon · 06/03/2012 19:36

oooh I dont know either but I do know its an evil addictive drug that we struggle to kick and I know how you feel.

OneLieIn · 06/03/2012 19:37

Don't have one. When you inhale, the poison goes into your blood and into the baby.

Not preaching, I remember how hard I found it to quit ...actually it was so easy I did it many times Grin

lotstar · 06/03/2012 19:38

I know it's very tempting but you've done so well, don't ruin it now! If you allow yourself the odd one then that will just make you crate more. Just give yourself a big pat on the back and be glad you've kicked a horrible habit.

DonnaDoon · 06/03/2012 19:38

ps I havnt smoked for a long time but fancy them frequently...takes tremendous willpower...like spottyteacakes says ...have chocolate

lotstar · 06/03/2012 19:39

Crave not crate!

SoozyWoozy · 06/03/2012 19:53

Maybe you should listen to what happens to your baby's heart beat when you smoke a cigarette... then you would be able to hear the damage you are doing. Smoking in pregnancy is irresponsible, cruel, and considering the research out there on the topic, pretty close to stupid.

A bit of a coincidental post considering the news recently, no?

tralalala · 06/03/2012 19:53

Don't do it, and don't start again afterwards this is such a huge opportunity to not smoke again.

If you start up liklihood of your child smoking trebles
if you start up you will lose out of so much money
if you start up you will smell again

if you stop you will have enough money for aholiday every year
if you stop your kids are less likely to get asthma
if you stop you will be less likely to die young or get a crap illness for years

I stopped at pregnancy after 21 years of smoking - 5 years ago, I still save up my fags money and do literally have a holiday a year for it.

It is a shit addiction and I do have moments of weakness but they pass.

DialMforMummy · 06/03/2012 19:55

Don't do it. I am a smoker too, so no judgement, but you know as well as I do that if you have one, you'll have several and it could be potentially very bad for your baby. Will you be able to forgive yourself?
You have done very well so far, keep going!

ballroomblitz · 06/03/2012 20:08

Oh please don't do it. Not necessarily for the baby but for yourself. Once you take one cigarette, you start to feed nicotine into your system again, starting off addiction and the (bad first few days) withdrawal symptoms all over again. One or two is very easy to lead to more than that a day again too. I know it's hard as I'm going through it myself atm but you will feel like shit mentally and really disappointed in yourself if you have one. You've done so well so far :)

littlemissnormal · 06/03/2012 20:11

Haha I thought that too SoozyWoozy!!

Seeing as how Stacey Solomon has had her title of mum of the year withdrawn for smoking in pregnancy, it can't be a positive thing! Wink

SoozyWoozy · 06/03/2012 20:17

littlemiss Glad I'm not the only one who thought it :)

I just find it incredible that people are willing to risk their unborn child's health by smoking. Not to mention the affects on the child when it is born... why would you risk cot death, asthma.... The research is there for all to read, and if you ignore it for your own selfish cravings - oh it makes me Angry

I am currently watching my mum struggle every single day to draw a breath, and why? Because she smoked and now has severe COPD. Would you chose that for yourself? No, because 'it'll never happen to me'.

And I got drawn in... just like the OP intended, I fear.

SpottyTeacakes · 06/03/2012 21:16

Oh did I get duped too Blush Angry

MummyLuce · 07/03/2012 18:55

Thanks guys...I didn't have a cig last night and the craving has passed. I'll read your posts again if I want one in the future! x

Well done mummyluce It's really not worth giving in to your cravings. Keep the willpower going. x

sweetkitty · 07/03/2012 19:15

Well done Grin

You wouldn't give a tiny wee newborn baby a fag, so don't smoke in pregnancy.

DialMforMummy · 07/03/2012 20:22

Yes! Well done! One day at a time....
