Pregnant with very low pressure

Hello all,

I'll be 17 weeks along on Wednesday and found out today that my BP is 95/47. It's normally on the low side anyway, but this is very low, even for me. I do get very tired, a bit dizzy from time to time and cold. MW didn't seem that phased by it, but it does seem low to me. Or am I being a worrywart?! Thanks in advance for any thoughts!

My bp is 90/60 usually and 80/50 in pregnancy. It only really affected me in the 2nd trimester each time when I struggled with being dizzy/faint.

I was told that if it was causing me problems, there were things they could do though. It was never unmanageable though.

I found that avoiding getting hungry/thirsty/hot/cold helped, as did not lying on my right side and not getting up too quickly.

Hi I'm nearly 18 weeks. My normal bp is about 100/60 but it has dropped recently to about 90/55.

Unfortunately, I did faint last week on the street and when my bp was taken it was 80/45 which was clearly not good but for the most part its not causing me a problem. The paramedic said that it was probably lower then that when I fainted. Hoping it was a one off as I really don't want to be draping myself all over the streets Grin

With both my pg, I was 90/50 throughout.

Faint, dizzy and palpitations at times, but just take things easy. Eat little and often and I found a glass of milk, a small banana and a bit of flapjack worked wonders! - probably to do with sugar levels too!

Better being low than high.

Just allow yourself extra time to do things, no rushing!

Good luck!

I've been about 80/50 in this pregnancy too. The only times I've had a problem is the last few weeks, from about 7.5 months I guess, if I have to stand still for any length of time, like an overlong supermarket queue. Then I'll feel faint but tbh I'm otherwise fine. I had a load of tests recently in hospital and my pulse was madly high, which my midwife has told me to expect when your blood pressure is low as well, just so you know. Apparently that's quite normal in pregnancy.

I'm similar to you and have low blood pressure which goes lower during pregnancy. The dr has said that it is preferrable to high blood pressure from a health perspective and the only thing to watch out for is fainting in case you hurt yourself when you drop! The advice already given re: eating is good, I always have a cereal bar in my bag just in case I start to get that familiar spaced out feeling. I make no apologies for doing things in my own time (rushing to avoid being late exacerbates the chance of a faint for me) and I boldly ask for a seat when I start to feel squiffy on the tube.

Thanks so much, very helpful. Apparently too, a doctor friend told me that one reason pregnant ladies have lower blood pressure is because we have more body heat to lose so we dilate more to get rid of it, therefore becoming light headed. Sort of wish they'd told me this yesterday when I was at my appointment Hmm. But I'm now armed with flapjacks and small snacks and will try not to rush too much. And relaaaaax!

Thank you and wishing you all happy pregnancies!
