hi has anyone got any ideas of things to do for your birthday while pregnant?
Its my birthday at the end of the month and ill be 37/38 weeks pregnant.
I want to do something fun with my friends. I did think of a spa day but they seem to be coming out expensive so wondered if anyone else has any other ideas :)

roadlesstravelled · 05/03/2012 13:52

I went to a comedy show and it was really good and we went for a meal afterwards- it was all I could handle lol.

Sober party games for pregnant women:

Resent The Drunks (you sit around a table, watching your friends get drunk, resenting them)

Hate the Carefree Eaters (you all sit around a table in a posh restaurant, you watch your friends order blue cheese, rare steaks, liver pate etc. Resent them, then follow with a celebratory round of Resent the Drunks)

Early To Bed (sit around a table in the pub/restaurant/club of your choice and place bets on what time you will topple gently forward, asleep, exhausted by all the mayhem, resentment, and the fact it's now past 8pm)

DIY spa day?

Cinema or theatre with a meal beforehand (even non-pregnant friends wouldn't be getting drunk if there was something after the meal)

babybouncer · 05/03/2012 14:11

I celebrated my friend's 30th by going to a Michellin starred restaurant for lunch. There's usually a set lunch menu which is fab but much cheaper than an evening meal and the wine is very expensive, so being pregnant is actually an advantage!

Or, seeing that you've just said you don't fancy a lunch, how about an afternoon tea somewhere?

Aworryingtrend · 05/03/2012 14:15

Thanks for the thread- I will be 37 weeks when it's my 30th and am already sick of people asking what I plan to do for it- er, sit in my pyjamas and watch DVDs?!

Like you I fancied a spa day but for the 'mother to be' treatments its looking like at least £150!!! Unless you could get a Groupon deal?

Other options are:

  • Afternoon tea
  • A bbq at home so DH can do all the work
  • Dinner and a night away in a hotel with friends (so you can slope off early to bed if needs be!)
  • Go to see a show
  • Sleepover party- sit in your pyjamas eating chocolate watching DVDs and gossiping.

What would you have done for your birthday if you hadn't been heavily pregnant-can that be adapted in some way?

lemonsmum2b · 05/03/2012 14:37

Im not a big drinker anyway but dont fancy seeing everyone else drunk.

If i wasnt pregnant id prob go to a theme park or fancyed doing that rope thing through trees i can think of loads of things to do if i wasnt pregnant :( .

My first idea was to hire a canal boat and invite partners to so they could do the hard work but that was coming out really expensive and felt cheeky asking people to contribute. The spa day for a quick basic treatment and use of pool is working out just over £30. So any slightly cheaper ideas would be good.

Will have a look and see if there are any shows on.

Id have to have a big party aworryingtrend if i was 30 but mines not really a special birthday just 25.

My DH has just organised a tea party for my birthday at the end of month. Just at our house, and it will be in the garden if the weather's ok. If fact, it will probably just be in the garden regardless of the weather, that's what gazebos are for Smile
We'll have little triangle sandwiches and lots of cakes and scones all for me and Pimms cocktails all for me too Grin

Purplehonesty · 06/03/2012 08:01

Lots of hotels do a swim lunch around here which is what I would like. Choose somewhere with a really posh spa feeling and you can swim/relax by the pool then have a nice lunch in the restaurant and coffee/cake/blether in the lounge after.
It's prob 5 to 10 quid for the swim and whatever lunch costs.
You could spend a good few hours there and if they have a spa if anyone wants nails etc done they sometimes have an express package quite cheaply.
Have a good birthday

lemonsmum2b · 20/03/2012 15:00

Missgiraffe1 a teaparty sounds a lovely idea lots of yummy cupcakes wish i had a garden.

thanks purplehonesty iv tried looking for something like that but must not of been looking in the right place.

Ive decided to leave it now as iv been having a few braxon hiks (or however its spelt :S) and dont want to book it in advance an lose out on the money if lemon decides to make an early apperance. Ill just start planning lemons 1st birthday extra early instead hehe :)

Hiya, I had my birthday a couple of weeks ago when I was 32 weeks pregnant, to be honest everyone tried really hard to make it a lovely day but by the time lunch was over I was sobbing in the car to DH that people had made plans for me for the afternoon and all I wanted to do was nap!

BellaCB · 20/03/2012 21:26

Oh, god, it doesn't matter what you do as long as you do something! Grin I;m having flashbacks to my last birthday here. I was five months pregnant and still being sick about 3 times a day. It was a week day so I was at work. None of my friends lived close enough to come and visit me after work, and my only close friend at work (its a small company!) was also pregnant and didn't want to go out. And DP was working nights!!! I had a microwave meal, watched Come Dine With Me, and then went to bed early. It was, officially, The Birthday That Wasn't. So at least have a friend or two over and do something!

(PS - yes, I am still bitter about that birthday...)

spannermary · 20/03/2012 22:22

I'm currently 37/8 weeks pregnant, and the thought of being in the car/going anywhere is horrific!

I would LOVE it if a group of my girls came over with a DVD or 2, some chocolate, cake and some mocktails and had a fun day: films, doing each other's nails, and just having a laugh.

RichManPoorManBeggarmanThief · 21/03/2012 05:10

bella My DC is due on DH's birthday, to which his Dbro said "If that happens, you do realise that your birthday will just cease to exist, don't you?"

Poor DH.

MichaHistoire · 13/01/2020 16:16

I did a Murder Mystery at home when celebrating my birthday last year 2 weeks after giving birth. I did a 1920s theme and everyone had a great time dressing up. The game cost £15 to buy online and organisation wise I pretty much just needed to press play on the cd. Reading this thread for ideas as I'll be about 30 weeks pregnant for my bday this year!

MichaHistoire · 13/01/2020 16:36

Some other pregnancy friendly birthday's I've had in the past:

  • Watch a cabaret show
  • Karaoke
  • Crazy golf (there's a few cool pop up golf courses at the moment that have street food + bar)
BakeOffRewatch · 31/07/2022 12:37

Thanks @MichaHistoire , crazy golf is such a good idea! I wanted to hang out and chat with friends but not up for sitting down for ages with dinner or in a pricey bar
