Mixed messages about fluid levels

I'm 33 weeks pregnant with second baby and also T1 diabetic.

Measuring huge for dates and routine (for diabetics) scan at 28 weeks showed fluid levels at the highest end of normal. Told not to worry.

Scan at 32 weeks showed fluid still at top end of normal. The sonographer seemed concerned about it becoming polyhydromisis (sp?) and was talking to me about signs to watch for. However, the OB consultant said not to worry - it's within normal range, it's unlikely to become polyhromisis (which diabetics are at increased risk of) because my blood sugars are well controlled and the baby is growing normally.

Then today I went in to be monitored for reduced movements (all fine) and the midwife who examined me could feel all the fluid and insisted I must have polyhyromisis (I think she was making assumptions because I am diabetic). I referred her to my notes which say it is within normal levels, which she accepted, but said the fluid 'felt on the cusp of polyhyromisis' and told me what to do in case of PROM!

I feel I am having mixed messages about these fluid levels - are they worrying or not? And who can I ask about this? My community midwife, the specialist midwife or my consultant? (seeing lots of people!)

I was borderline polyhydramnious in my last pg, sonographers said it was high side of normal but consistant with a large baby, consultant warned of the potential problems and said if the pressure started causing me problems with breathing then they would induce and midwives thought I was definatley poly, measured 52 cm at 37 weeks.

My waters went at 37+6 weeks and all was fine.

My advice would be to expect a lot of water, I went through all my maternity pads, and my clean hospital/just got home knickers and PJ's before any contractions started. The MW couldn't examine me properly as there was just too much liquid.

52cm at 37 weeks! I have been measuring 4/5 weeks ahead for weeks now so not nearly that big - and I'm very short, which is nit to my advantage with the fluid. Baby is not especially big, my last was bigger but I didn't have high fluid levels then. I am very breathless already.

I should be having an elcs between 38-39 weeks (due to previous cs and the diabetes) so hopefully the surgeon will deal with the fluid in
theatre! My concern is obviously waters breaking before 37 weeks.

It sounds like you possibly had more fluid than me - I am wondering if p

Hi, just wanted to say that I have gestational diabetes and polyhydramnious. I am 33+4 today and measuring at 42w. My tummy is very hard and stretched and it pains me even when walking. I have been given steroid injections for babies lungs due to the increased risk of rupture of membranes and am attending fetal health unit 3x week for ctg tracing. My consultant has me booked in for a section at 35 weeks as does not believe I will last longer than that and would rather I didnt arrive as an emergency. Also, baby is a good size. I have to say that my care has been excellent. Good luck.

Hmm, it would seem 4/5 weeks ahead is not that big when it comes to polyhydraminosis. Fluid is still within normal range on scans.

I don't know what to think - I've got some HCPs saying 'everything's fine' and others talking about PROM! I am inclined to believe my consultant over a midwife who has never met me before as I think she was making assumptions based on my being diabetic.
