I picked this pram yesterday as im 6 months pregnant, going back today to try it out in the car and see if it fits ok.

then we went to show mil the brochure, 1st thing she says is "oh silver cross only the best for you hey" (as if im some snob, im not at all just the only one that i liked in the shop really). then she goes onto say how it looks so small and will be useless after a few months, i tell her it didnt look particularly small in the shop, then her sisters walk in and the first thing she does is show them the picture and say " what do you think of the pram shes picked, dont you think it looks really small". i kept saying its a compact pram so its meant to be like that, She just made it into a huge thing, which i just found a bit weird, dp said nothing as he hasnt seen it yet anyway, maybe im being overly sensitive but now shes got me wondering. How long is a child likely to use it for anyway, i really only imagined for the first 12-18 months anyway then i would upgrade to a bigger pushchair? is this about right though? i have no clue when it comes to prams at all so any help would be great, thanks

Ive put this in chat too, but thought you lot may be in the same boat as me and have already picked it too, hope thats ok

It should be fine for your needs, but just make sure you read some reviews of it, my friend bought this pram when she was pregnant and hated it. It's very heavy and not fantastic to push, she bought a new one after 3 months because she just couldn't stand it any more!

I've got a Silver Cross Surf and love it.

Easy to collapse, it has a small and actually lighter that most chassis', it goes over sand, pebble beaches, the dunes and grass because the front wheels lock. Great in town because it's so small. There are newborn/baby inserts that you take out as your child grows, adapters for the maxi cosi carseat, all inserts covers etc are washable, you can have the seats facing you or away, extendable handle which makes it comfortable to push even for tall people and a fabulous range of colours.

I honestly can't say enough good things about it. I think that the 2010 model had a few issues like the size of the basket but I have the 2011 model and it's great.

Simply Baby in Lancaster had a fantastic deal on which allowed us to get everything for under £600.

haddock1976 Thanks for your reply, did you find it big enough once your baby grew a bit though which is what i think mil was referring to, i love it already, certainly dont find it heavy at all and absolutely lovely to push even all the reviews ive read say the same.

hi, i have the surf but haven't used yet (2 weeks to go!) but have to say i absolutely love it. currently, we have it ready for newborn baby, with the baby-nest set up, this does make it look quite small but when u take all that stuff out (the bits that are intended for newborns) my 2.5 year old neice would easily fit in it as a pushchair. as regards weight, i am 38+4, with bad SPD, and i can still easily lift the chassis and seat unit. Basket space not amazing but i knew this when ordered, and as i won't be doing massive shops and then getting the bus or anything, i chose style over substance!!!!

Hi thanks for that, im currently having physio for spd so thought it amazing yesterday when i could pick it up too! my minds made up now so thanks! x

I can't comment on the surf but what you're proposing isn't unusual. Many people change to a simple stroller when their little ones are a but bigger. Many of my friends did this at one, I took longer to convince DH so we got ours around 18 months.

You'll always get criticisms and compliments. If you're happy with it the. Don't let your family rain on your parade. And good luck with the rest of your pregnancy

DD is 7 weeks old but 27 inches long already and I'm not anticipating any size problems with the Surf till she's at least 24 months. We thought she might be rather long as I'm tall so this was a factor in choosing the Surf. Did your MIL see it with the newborn inserts in? If she did then I can understand why she might have thought it small.

I tested my on the large side 14 month old in one and he was too big for the seat. Good for tiny babies imo. Not good for toddlers.

vix1980 · 04/03/2012 09:05

Hi, thanks for the messages, i took my friends 2 yr old toddler with me yesterday to try it and there was plenty of room, as i imagined anyway i can upgrade to a pushchair later on if needed, its not a problem, so thanks to a young girl who i think gave me a deal i should of really had, i got the lot plus car seat for £575 and deposit paid, mil can go suck eggs for all i care now!! thanks again for helping me make up my mind though x

This might be helpful - it's a review of the Surf by Best Buggy (fab pram comparison website). If you change your mind or just want to look at other prams there is lots of them on there!
