Hi. A pregnant friend of ours is worried about carrying Haemaglobin E, and unfortunately the leaflet she's been given seems to give conflcting information. Plain enough about the risks if her husband has beta thelasaemia (they're awaiting tests) but not if he also has Haemaglobin E. On page 6 (just in case anyone has the same leaflet) it says that even if the child had homozygous Haemaglobin E (ie from both parents) it is "harmless." But in the summary on page 9 it says "If your partner is also a carrier (of Haemaglobin E) together you could have children with a serious inherited illness" Hope someone can help clarify this please as our friend is from overseas, and as her English is not too good she's understandably quite scared. Thanks very much for reading, and for any help.
