....afternoon girls!

I'm 34+1 and the last thing i need to buy for my daughter is a stand for her moses basket!

Is yours a rocking one or a fold out stand?

Am i making a rod for my own back by letting my baby get used to being rocked to sleep, i'm thinking to go with a flat one at the mo! x

They sell stands for moses baskets Confused?

I thought the whole point about moses baskets was that you could carry them around and put the baby down to sleep wherever was close to hand.

In any case, my moses basket only got used for three weeks for DC1 - biggish baby, and he used to wake himself up when he waved his arms around in his sleep and hit the sides. I think I used it two or three times total for DC2, she basically just went straight into a cot.

Any stand at all sounds unnecessary to me - but there are lots of people selling unnecessary things to new parents.

We have a rocking one but the rocking bit can be secured so that it is stable too. For me a stand was helpful as I'd had a c section and wouldn't have wanted to reach down to the floor all the time. We didn't use the rocking bit a huge amount. DS1 just screamed whether he was rocked or not and DS2 learned how to rock himself and would just build himself into a tizzy rather than fall asleep. THe rocking function may be useful for some people but if it costs a lot more I wouldn't bother.

Rocking :D

God I'm clueless I thought everyone got a stand, I don't want her on the floor next to me lol I'll be on my own in a double bed though so mabye I could just put the basket on there on the safe side I.e. Next to the wall!

Gonna be dragging her got in here at this rate I thought they stayed in the basket till about 4 months lol

Ive got both because ive got a basket upstairs and down. I cant carry the basket so lift baby in and out of each. Anyway, the rocking stand aint worth it. I keep locking it to stay still. Most of the time baby is asleep when you relent and lie them down and its not really like rocking a pram so tend to lift baby out.

And i agree its good to have a stand. Easier to lift baby in and out esp if you end up with a c section.

I had a rocking one for my DD and loved it. So much easier to reach out of bed and gently rock it by moving the handles. It soothed her back to sleep (sometimes!) and meant I could stay half asleep :)

Rocking stand was a godsend for us! Very useful. We managed to find a rocking folding one don't think it was expensive tho I can't remember where we got it! Stand is also good if you are breastfeeding cos baby is at your level when you wake in the night so you can just get them no bending.

We have a stationery stand. I didn't want DD to have to be rocked to sleep.

My DD is 12 weeks, and still in her basket, though wont be for much longer as she is long. She is swaddled tightly though, so not able to whack her arms off the sides, so maybe that has bought us a little extra time.

If you do buy a stand, make sure it is one that rocks side to side like this rather than from head to foot like this

A baby's head is heavier than its feet, so the head-to-foot rocking ones are hopeless, especially after a couple of months. We ended up propping ours with a book at the head end so that DS didn't end up sleeping with his feet in the air.

I have a rocking one but she doesn't rely on rocking to sleep, she does like to kick and rock herself in the mornings and can amuse herself this way for ages. She's 4 months now and just about getting too big for it (50th centile so average size baby).
