Hi all
not been on here for a while but need some advice. I have recently been off work with pubis symphisis dysfunction as I am standing all day and in complete agony. For all my previous sick days prior to this I have been paid full pay and was wondering if this would be the case for having a long period of time off???
I have looked at my maternity policy and it doesn't state anything about sick pay just that if your are off sick with PRI 4 weeks prior to childbirth SMP will automatically start.

Please help
Xxx

You'd be better asking this in Employment I think? I'd guess it would be in your contract or company handbook, though, relating to pay with long-term sickness rather than your maternity policy?

It will depend what you are contractually entitled to regardless of pregnancy - they can not not pay you for sick leave for pregnancy related illness if you would normally be entitled to it.

You need to read your sickness rather than the maternity policy.

As far as pay is concerned, if you are signed off sick for a period of time, they will treat you exactly the same as a non-pregnant person. You should get exactly what you would otherwise be entitled to if you had to have a month off work. They can't give you less sick pay, but they also won't give you extra because it is pregnancy related.

In some cases, it is financially better for you to start your maternity leave rather than go down to Statutory Sick Pay. But if you will be getting full pay from your company then obviously you want to stay on that for as long as possible.

You have my sympathy with the SPD, I've had it since 20 weeks and it is horrid! Your employers should be modifying your work so you can take sitting down breaks or do some of your work sitting down. That way you might not need to be off sick.

Well the thing is I normally wouldn't receive any but have whilst being pregnant!
