Hospital bag for staying in prebirth - what to pack?

I have placenta praevia and was warned at my 20 week scan that if I had any bleeding I would have to go into hospital overnight for checks, so I half packed an overnight bag just in case. On Monday I had a tiny bleed so went into hospital, DH threw a couple of extra things in the bag and brought it in to me. I was released last night, but I was so bored and uncomfortable during my stay I've been trying to think of what else I can take to make it better.

Any ideas?

(I've already got my post-baby bags sorted and as I'm down for a c-section I don't need a labour bag as such)

Crossword puzzle book? Your own pillow. Earplugs and eye mask. Download some audio books? Learn a new skill like knitting?

If you have a laptop, mine was invaluable!
Meant I could hook up to the hospital's wireless internet, play DVDs (with headphones), computer games, make lists/meal plans for LO's arrival, etc.

Snack type foods were good
(partly due to boredom as it was nice to pick at things like grapes; partly because there were no hospital meals that I could eat due to allergies!)

Would second books, knitting & puzzle books (I took Sudoku) too.

Also very summery clothes, a fan & breast pads in case lack of beds means you get shunted onto the post-natal ward like me
(it was BOILING and I found that my boobs leaked everywhere each time someone's newborn cried)

And finally flip flops (for trips to shared loo) & towels (we weren't given any).

Good luck! Smile

Thanks - unfortunately our laptop is DH's ultrathin Mac notebook, which can't play DVDs and I'm not sure I could be so mean as to separate it from him!

Pomtastic - I will be on the antenatal 'wing' of the post-natal ward so that's a good call and I hadn't even thought about towels for the shower!

Not sure about knitting, but I did used to enjoy embroidery - might dig that out just in case...

Ear plugs. Lots of pairs of ear plugs. Books. Hand cream, nail file - just think of the fantastic manicure you could give yourself with time to let the varnish dry - sigh... Flip flops - you could do a pedicure as well (not sure how pregnant you are so finding your feet may not be possible anymore). On second thoughts, maybe no varnish as they'll just take if off you if you go into labour...

Seriously impressed you have a hospital bag packed already - I had an elective cs so packed mine the night before. Not so much a bag, more of a carrier bag.... I was seriously amused by the lady next to me who had two wheely suitcases for a one night stay.... I just can't generate that much washing in 24-48 hours !

I packed ten tonnes of stuff for an anticipated 1 night stay - lucky I did as it turned into a 6 night stay... :(
