posterior baby

I'm 37 weeks, and just back from a midwife visit to discover that my baby is in a posterior position, so we're potentially looking at a back to back labour, which doesn't sound like much fun. I know he might turn himself before I go into labour - though his head is already partly engaged - and I'm seeing an acupuncturist who specialises in this kind of thing in a couple of days, but does anyone who has been in this position have any advice?

If you managed to turn your baby, what worked for you? Acupuncture, reflexology, crawling around on all fours, sleeping on your stomach, using a birthing ball, kneeling positions, yoga poses?

Thanks in advance.

My DD was back to back and to be honest if your DS can't be turned, don't worry about it.
It's doable!

An op baby is not a problem per se. Some turn before labour, some during and some come out stargazing. Some women say their labours with op babies are their easiest deliveries, some never even know their babies are op. Some women have pelvises which favour an op baby, some women spend days encouraging an op baby to flip round, only for them to flip back again as soon as you relax your efforts.

Yes you could have a back to back labour and find it painful, but you could have an oa labour and it be worse. Labour is something that comes with its own peculiar set of circumstances and you can't say anything for sure.

I had two op babies btw. Nothing, but nothing would tempt them into an oa position.

I suppose what I'm saying is don't decide now that it's a 'problem'. Try all the stuff that can encourage an oa position but don't worry that it means anything at all for actual labour.

my second baby was back to back and didn't turn and the labour was fine (best out of all 3 in fact)

My first was op and I think she turned before she came out, now at 38 weeks this one has suddenly turned op even though I have spent hours on the birthing ball!
It can just be a quirk of your pelvis as nothing would shift Dd the proper way round.
However, I am not worried about it labour wise! The only concern is that sometimes there isn't the pressure on your cervix to make you go into labour so if your baby doesn't turn try and focus on getting the pressure on your cervix.
Good luck! Oh and you might feel like you have backache rather than contractions to begin with, and I found a TENS very useful for this. :)

Thanks, everyone - that's very reassuring. Perhaps I do have a weirdy tiltedl pelvis and this baby is humouring me... I've just rented a TENS, Purple.

I think I'm just freaking out because everything else has gone smoothly so far - and because I am an older, nervous first timer, I have put stupid amounts of effort into reading everything and doing absolutely everything the recommended way, and I think I was bargaining with the universe that if I did everything right, nothing would go wrong. Which is dopey, obviously. Smile

Cheese maybe get a birthing ball and see if it helps turn them? I wouldn't say you have a funny pelvis just that I probably do as it is second baby to do it and I had SPD this time :) And I am sure everything will be fine!

I'm nearly 37 weeks and my baby has been OP for a while - my midwife has offered me a reflexolgy appointment this week to try and encourage them to turn.

Not sure if I believe in it whatsoever, but I figure it can't hurt to go along. Will let you know later in the week! :) (If anyone is still reading this as I know am a month behind and Cheese probably has a baby by now!)

DS was very firmly back to back and I ended up with a CS (partly due to lack for pressure as purple said) so I have made extra effort to sit on/lean over my ball etc. My notes say he was 'well impacted' so I guess he was wedged in my pelvis back to back.
