I had the same thing, at 26 weeks I was measuring 31 weeks and was sent for a growth scan. Turned out he is a normal size, but has extra fluid around him which makes my bump look bigger. Today I had my 31 week check up and I am measuring 35 weeks, so have to go back and see the specialist at the hospital next week to be assessed again...

i had extra fluid with dc1 but didnt know till i gave birth.

so i will be having a scan tmrw then?

i do feel massive as my lungs feels all squashed up since early stages....found out today that dc3 is transverse, same as dc1.

good luck with your pg and birth Smile

I am almost 33 weeks but measuring at 41!!! I have been diagnosed with polyhydramnious (too much fluid) and gestational diabetes. Baby is on the 75th centile which isnt huge. I am being admitted for steroids this week incase baby is delivered early which Im told is a very big possability. I have a section booked at 37 weeks.
Hope all turns out well for you.

Tweedledeedum · 28/02/2012 16:59

I think you see the obstetrician first at the hospital tomorrow and depending on what he/she thinks, you may then be booked in for a growth scan, which they did the following day for me.

I was super worried, my husband was an over 9lb-er and has a huge head, can never get any hats that fit him even now, plus his Mum always says she was never the same again after giving birth to him Shock! The lady that did the scan said it wasn't too much extra fluid, just showed he was busy in there swallowing etc.

Thanks biglips, you too! :)

looking on my centile its over 90th.

I have to wait for the results, dont I? (for about tmrw)

Just to say hope all goes well for you tomorrow at the hospital. x

Tweedledeedum · 28/02/2012 17:40

No don't think you will have to wait for results, tomorrow I guess they will just poke and prod, but if you have a growth scan they will tell you at the end and give you print outs of percentile charts and their report to put in your file - she took measurements of the baby and then measurements of the depth of fluid around him. Well that is what happened to me, so assuming it will be the same...

hiya,
My DC3 was measuring large (4 to 5cm ahead of dates) from about 28wks (wasn't measured before then). I was sent for growth scan - fluid levels normal (although I think at the higher end of 'normal') and baby size also normal, so no idea why the over the bump tape measurement was so big. They did discover from scan that baby was lying transverse & said this was likely reason for large measurement - baby wasnt really using any of my pelvis, was sitting right up high under my ribs (bl**dy uncomfy!). Anyhow, I gave birth to a perfectly healthy baby at 38+5 (elcs) who weighed 8lb3oz (so I guess she'd have been a 9lb-er had I gone naturally to full term).
THey poked & prodded at growth scan & told me there & then what they were thinking (although I did have to keep asking questions, otherwise they seem to just keep it to themselves!).
GOod luck at the hospital

Neither, it's my first baby and hoping to have a nice calm water birth - but not sure what happens if you keep measuring big or if the fluid levels do become a concern? My GTT came back normal so I don't have gestational diabetes or anything.

biglips · 28/02/2012 20:33

Icrave - Well as Youve mentioned your baby is transverse, my dc1 was and she turned around in the last month of pg and she was high but this baby is feeling low so get alot of movement very low down.

Birds - good luck.

Me too! Good luck tom for your appointment, let us know how it goes :)

biglips · 29/02/2012 12:42

well i literally walked in and straight back out. All is fine and nothing to be alert at all. Specialist midwife said "Dont know why your midwife said youre having a big-ger baby??"..... The fluid is spot on for the size of the baby and also is facing downward. I told her (and my midwife's student) that the bed was uncomfortable and was not flat and plus i was sooo gassy too, so she said that prob explained it. So all back to normal for me and good luck to you all MNetters....

thanks
