So I know that people have lots of hip pain when pregnant - and I've been lucky to get off relatively lightly.

I am now 34+2, however, and my left hip is KILLING ME! My question is - are you better to try and walk it off, or to sit like a lump on the sofa?

And does sitting on a ball make it better or worse?

Thanks, guys...

I find sitting on the ball makes it a bit better. Because you are sitting on air, not something hard, then there is less pressure. You are better to avoid sitting down for too long, but on the other hand you also need to avoid being on your feet for too long!

Acupuncture Smile i had really bad hip pain - had one session & it totally sorted it out. I have another 5 sessions booked which I'm hoping to start using soon as apparently it can really help to shorten labour.

Mmm - I don't really have the money for acupuncture (especially as our car is playing up atm, and has taken some of the money planned for last minute baby purchases!)

Plus, at 34+3, I'm thinking I'd be ready to pop before they even happened! Good to know, though :)

As for the ball, I am sitting on it as I type. It seems to help a bit, and it's good to know I won't make the problem worse. Oh, but I miss ibuprofen. I just know one of those bad boys would take the edge off it!

Hip pain is worse today than yesterday, so may just be something I'm stuck with. I could've predicted it really, as I had hip surgery 10 years ago, and it's that side (the left) that is hurting.

It's amazing how this pain can affect one's mood...

Hiya

I've found the Pigeon Pose (yoga) is really good for easing my hip pain. It looks nigh on impossible on the DVD (I've got the Tara Lee one) but it's actually quite easy and can be adapted for pregnancy as in this

Enquire at your GP re acupuncture, my mate's GP practices it andit sortedout her morning sickness (improved significantly so she could function) all on the NHS.

I'm 35+4 & started getting left hip pain about 10 days ago. I'm sure constantly lying on that side is giving it a battering.

I've found swimming loosens it up a bit. Rotating on the ball helps but if I sit on it for too long my pelvis gets stuck I struggle to get my legs back together! DH's massages help ease it a bit as well but I feel
like an old lady!

Hopefully it won't be for much longer Smile

Stripey - that sounds like me! I'll give the swimming a go - if my costume still fits me...I do love swimming. So relaxing!

Poodle: interesting to hear that about acupuncture. Thanks - I'll look into it!

And, Breadstick - I'm definitely going to give that a go.

Your advice is all brilliant. Thank you!
