am just over 26 weeks with first much awaited baby, and on top of still having morning sickness, and leaking boobs i now can only go for about an hour before i feel dizzy, they have said my blood pressure must drop at this time but quickly rises, has anyone else had this and if so any tips on how to make it stop as dr has signed me off work for two weeks ( work with adults with disability often on own so not safe for me or them if i pass out) just feeling so bad that i cant even seem to cope with being pregnant

I had this too, also because of low blood pressure. Annoyingly, my GP and MW just seemed pleased that I didn't have high blood pressure, so just kindof ignored it. I nearly fainted a couple of times (and felt so utterly unable to help myself, or to ask anyone else for help at those times). I didn't like going anywhere by myself in case I fainted. The main thing that helped me was sitting down if I started to feel dizzy.

It's good that your GP is concerned about it, and being signed off sounds eminently sensible.

thanks glad i'm not the only one, had comments of its just the baby moving (its not).the not going out by self is the bit i'm finding hard am very independant and poor hubby also does care so sleeps at work 2 to 3 nights a week.

Nope, it's definitely not just the baby moving! It's awful, so I really do sympathise. I remember that it used to happen quite quickly, which made going places more daunting. I don't exactly remember when it started / finished for me I'm afraid.

Good luck OP, it will become a distant memory when you're holding your DC Smile.

thanks i know it will be worth it, just feel bit of a failure atm

You're not a failure, it's just that pregnancy is such a big and weird thing, that it affects everyone differently. Sorry, that's not particularly eloquent Grin, I think I mean that your body is doing something that's so amazing, that it can't be expected to function completely normally at the same time.

I'd try eating small amounts regularly, sitting down as much as possible, and not walking up too many hills. Good luck Smile.

A girl on our due in June thread had this. She almost fainted driving a couple of times, so please be very careful of yourself. It turns out her uterus is pressing on an artery or something! Glamorous life being pregnant.

Take good care of yourself! Xx

taybay · 28/02/2012 18:05

have not driven since it happened as don't want the risk

Those compression stockings/socks (like flight socks/anti dvt socks) can help with this as they keep blood flowing - maybe worth a try?

puddingnazi · 28/02/2012 18:14

I have had this for the last couple of months consultant reckons its postural...how this makes me faint when im sitting down ill never know... again they were just happy i had low b.pressure not high... :( take care and sit down more than usual i demanded work give me a chair as i was standing all day everyday and this has helped massively x

I would also recommend getting your iron levels checked, as I was having dizzy spells and found out I was anaemic. I have been feeling much better since my iron levels increased

taybay · 05/03/2012 13:12

iron levels are all good, am relived to know i'm not the only one thankyou all

I had this too- It was worse when I my iron was low but I would still get dizzy spells. I had borderline iron results but my bp was very low and apparently I am sensitive to the amount of iron in my blood so iron tablets made me feel like a new woman. Someone told me she was told by her GP to eat 2 packets crisps a day as the salt helped to raise your bp and to drink lots of fluids. Ate the crisps but I'm not sure it made any difference. It eased off the second half of the third trimester.

I'm 25 weeks pregnant and spent last Sunday in hospital hooked up to a drip with the bed tilted so my head was below my feet - all of this was because my blood pressure went crazy low!

Luckily I was at the out of hours gp in the hospital when it happened but ended up hooked up to machines for over 8 hours - they couldn't find anything 'wrong' with me apart from the bp but if one more person had told me it's better for it to be low than high I think I might actually have found the energy to hit them!

Yes, I understand that high bp is dangerous but when you are feeling as crap as I was and no-one can give you anything to make it better or tell you what to do it really doesn't help!

It took 4 days for my bp to recover, no idea why it dropped so low or how it managed to get back to 'normal' but I feel so much better now! I was told about eating salt so had been having boiled eggs for breakfast with salt on, crisps and chips with salt (the only time I add salt to my food) - now I just have high cholesterol to worry about! :)

I also found that I was sleeping alot... try and get some rest and keep your feet up as much as possible and hopefully yours will go back to 'normal' soon! Sorry my little moan hasn't helped that much just wanted you to know apparently it's quite 'normal' for this to happen!

Xx

liking the fact i've got an excuse to eat crisps,
