Waking myself up snorting

OK, exactly as title says. Fall asleep no problem then wake up myself, DH and the neighbours by snorting really loudly Blush
I think it's cause my nose is blocked at night - I also seem to sleep with my mouth open and end up with really dry mouth and nightmares about being thirsty and not being able to get water.
I'm 37 weeks. I know this is a minor irritation and hopefully not long to go but I'm knackered. This happens several times a night. Anyone got any suggestions?

Would those nose strips that hold your nose more open help? I get a stuffy nose, and end up holding my cheek in order to open the tubes more. Those strips do that in a more effective way I think.

How weird, I am also 37 weeks and the same thing is happening. With me it feels like my throat is sticking together and blocking off. I just keep water by my bed and sip that but then the heartburn starts. I am not much help as I have just resigned myself to rubbish sleep for the foreseeable future. Will be watching for any suggestions though.

im 20wks and this has happened to me. only once tho. and im usually a very quiet sleeper. scared myself awake! lol.

I'm nearly 36+4 and have the same issue. I thought it was because my sinuses are blocked. My mouth is so dry cos I can't breathe through my nose. I end up drinking 6 glasses of water in the night which ends up waking me up to go to the loo and then my mouth is dry too when i wake up. It's a vicious circle. I'm going to try Olbas oil tonight and see if it helps me breathe more easily through my nose.

I am 36+4, nearly 37 weeks, I should say!

How odd, i'm also 37 weeks tomorrow and i've had exactly the same thing for the last couple of nights. Even had the dreams about my mouth and throat being so dry I cant breath. My partner said I was snorting really loudly last night. I dont dare trying a drink of water at night for fear of needing the loo for the rest of the night. Currently lying in bed with the curtains and window wide open in an attempt to air myself a bit!

Hmm, nose strips sound like they might be worth a try. Thanks AliceHurled

Weird how it seems to be happening to us at this stage of pregnancy. I know what you mean with the water bringing on the heartburn, quickly followed by the trip to the loo cos bladder feels like it is the size of a pea right now. Oh the glamour of it all.....!

I'm 37+3 weeks and the same thing happening to me! Its only started happening since I stopped work & the carpal tunnel has eased off a bit so I can actually lie down down - spent 6 weeks propped upright and barely slept a wink, but OH had peace & quiet. Now I can lie on my side again and snoring like a drain till I wake myself up snorting! Poor love went in spare room and on sofa last night & said he could still hear me!

Magnumwhite · 27/02/2012 14:22

Same thing here too! 36 weeks. has been going on a few weeks now - so sleep deprived as the heartburn also causes a chronic sore throat. open mouth breathing because of congestion = dry mouth and worse sore throat.
So can't wait to get he baby out!
Feekerry how are doing - missed you on hyperemesis thread - let us know when the baby arrives!

VikingLady · 27/02/2012 15:12

Freaky - I came on here looking for help on this as am 37+4! MW told me it was just pregnancy rhinitis and I'd have to live with it. Off to buy nasal strips!

stripeyZ · 27/02/2012 18:28

Ha ha ! 35 weeks and having the same issues, although the snorting does seem to occasionally happen when I'm awake too Blush

thejoanwilder · 27/02/2012 19:50

sympathies. My sinuses have been buggered since about 16 weeks. Am now at 36, and this is actually the thing I am most looking forward to after the baby getting here!
I found a humidifier helps, as does saline spray and the strips did help a little till I developed a reaction to the adhesive that made me look as though I had sunburn in the middle of winter. Great...
I did develop an actual sinus infection after a cold, which was sorted with anti-biotics, but for the general low level annoyingness, basically it's tough was what my doctor said. :(
