Hi all. I am 8 weeks now and went to G.P today as formality. Made an appointment with receptionist on the way out and she said, "oh you'll have to wait till March as the midwife only admits one new woman per week".

What??

So what if there are 10 of us, will one just not be seen? I was told by the Doctor that my dating scan will be 12 weeks, i explained to the Receptionist that i would then be 14 weeks and she got me in the week before when i'll be 13!
I know they're short staffed and everything but this is my 3rd and the care just seems to be going downhill!!

I am not bothered about seeing the Midwife TBH, just i thought i needed her to refer me for the scan??
Is that not so?

It is the principle though aswell.
As me23 has jsut proved, sometimnes they do actually pick up things you wouldn't want to leave!
As the G.P referred me to the Midwife, i am lost as towho will refer me for scan.

My hospital also 'forgot' about me (well, actually they said they no record of me requesting booking there) so I didn't get booked in and scanned until over 15 weeks. (did have an early scan though at diff hospital).
don't know if midwife needs to refer you Angeliz, each hospital seems to have a differenet system. at mine they gave you your scan appointment at the booking, but the appointment had already been made

Yes lockets, i practically lived there over Christmas

If i'm sent the scan date (i will check on the phone with midwife on Monday) then i'm fine with it!+

I actually had 4 scans early on so hopefully i'm well and truly on the hospital files.
This whole thing has been because i thought the midwife had to refer me!

i had to book my 12-week scan! best to check if you aren't sure

starlover · 28/01/2006 22:16

then had to book my 20 week scan while i was at 12 week one

georginars · 28/01/2006 22:17

yes I had to prise info about how you got a scan out of the assorted people who answered the phone. took ages to find out I would get the scan date at the booking

West Mid was reasonably good for the actual birth but hell on earth in the postnatal ward! (realise this is true for many places though). However, there were plenty of things about my induction and subsequent labour that I thought were pretty rubbish, and essentially they forgot about me then too! I would strongly consider choosing Kingston next time as it did sound better from all my friends' experiences. Originally I wanted to go to Queens CHarlottes as have had quite a lot of treatment there but they refused me!

I could have appealed about Queen Charlotte's but decided it was too far away anyway. yes, very galling to be turned down! They said they were fully booked, prob because I was out of their area.
think West MId was just a stroke of bad luck away for being a really bad experience for me actually.

georginars · 28/01/2006 23:05

from being not for. i think I'd better go to bed - too tired to type now.

Angeliz, good luck. ring them up and HASSLE them to put your mind at rest, it seems to be the only way
