We've been trying for a baby for a while and have finally just fallen pregnant.

I'm really anxious however, because we live in a hot climate and the past few weeks have been scorchers. A day or so ago I went for a half hour walk outside and ended up red faced and sweaty, and now I'm panicking because I've read that overheating like this can cause birth defects.

I'm worrying myself sick ... do you think I've hurt the pregnancy??

Dont be daft. The "don't overheat" message is actually for the terminally stupid. It should actually read "don't run a marathon without taking sips of water".

Be logical, are there babies where you live or are children imported aged 12?

keely027 · 26/02/2012 16:02

thats a bit harsh of a response. people are here for support not sarcasm

AlpinePony · 26/02/2012 16:09

It is supportive. Op asked whether she was overeating or not. Would you rather fill her head with nonsense and further fuel her paranoia until she's scared to have a bath?

AlpinePony · 26/02/2012 16:10

I'm sorry you confuse logic with sarcasm. :(

kilmuir · 26/02/2012 16:11

Sure you will be fine. drink lots and keep out of the midday sun, like the locals do.

Flisspaps · 26/02/2012 16:18

AlpinePony I read your post on the way you intended it to come across, not harsh (and I'm 34w pg and particularly sensitive today for some reason!)

OP please don't worry. Like others have said, it will be fine. As long as you don't have boiling hot baths or allow yourself to become dehydrated or massively overheated then you have nothing to worry about. AFAIK the risks of overheating apply to you rather than the baby anyway, as you might become dehydrated (never great) or it can affect your BP. Babies are resilient things, even at this early stage.

Welcome to a lifetime of worrying about pretty much everything - it will drive you mad if you allow it to!

HeidiHole · 26/02/2012 16:25

I didn't read AlpinePony's post to be sarcastic, just very sensible! I agree with her :) Baby will be fine, enjoy!

Drink plenty of water, stay inn the shade during the hotter parts of the day. And maybe chat to some locals about how they cope if poss?
