I am 25 and half weeks pg and I don't think I have thrush. Had it earleier in the pg but I have a little discharge, but not alot and it's not "cottage cheesy" or "smelly". But I feel really dry and at the same time, I do hav trickles with my pelvic muscles weakening.
What can this itchy dry feeling be? When it feels really dry and itchy I use canestan wash (no soap ) and I feel a bit better.
My doctor isn't in till Friday and am a bit reluctant to spaek to any other doc. Has anyone else had this feeling? Any replies are much appreciated>

Not sure moosh although there are other infections besides thrush. I think my only ever case of thrush was at about that stage in preg. Doc didn't even examine. Just said it was so common she would prescibe treatment.

Thanks Bozza, dh thinks that it could be the fact that I am squeezing myself into size 10 knickers when I am clearly bigger now. So have gone out today to buy size 14 to see if that will help. Failing that I will phone docs tomorrow morning.

May be slight allergy to soap powders or your shower gel etc if it feels better after wash with Canestan. Try using washing owder from health food shop like Bio 5 for your undies and laying off all perfumed sopas etc for a few days. Plus wear cotton knickers - buying larger size ones works for me.

Could be cystitis, which canestan cream will help with.

I think that whatever is causing it it wouldn't hurt to take something that will increase the beneficial micro-organisms in the vaginal area. Pregnancy may alter the pH and kill off some of the friendly organisms. When the other types are allowed to increase too much in number it can cause infections.

I take acidophilus now and again to top mine up, but you can use live yogurt or one of these little yogurty drinks with live yeasts. This way you treat the root cause in a drug-free way, keeping yourself healthy in the long run, rather than slapping on canestan which will releive the itching but won't rebalance your natural flora, and so the problem then recurs.

Thanks for the advice ladies, I think I will try to buy something that will top up my ph level. Somebody at work mentioned Biofem I think it's called, that is supposed to be really effective. I have bought bigger knickers too wobblyknicks which helps a little (no rubbing). The doc has told me to bath in sea salt and to use canestan cream for 7 days and to return to him if there is no improvement.

I've tried Biofem - full name is Biofem Actigel. Worked quite well - reduced the itching and discomfort. I liked that it was made from plant extracts too. Got it from SootheIt.com. I was originally getting poise pads from the same place cos I hate buying them in shops .

Thanks for this thread! Am experiencing similar, but bio yog drinks and bigger pants sound like the way to go! Blessed relief!

Also, a very effective (or I found it to be) treatment if it is thush is to 'put' live yoghurt on down there, like you would your canesten. 'On the spot' treatment so to speak!!It's drug free, fresh and cool and won't be doing you any harm even if it isn't thrush. Not advised during pregnancy but the rest of the time you can dip a tampon (!) in it and then position that, again really relieves and, erm refreshes the area. So now you know! If you lot didn't think I was mad before I bet you do now! But try it!

Flossam · 02/08/2004 15:10

Sorry, forgot to also point out that yoghurt as it is kept in the fridge will be gorgeously cool down there when it is hot and itchy!!

No-one knew quite what to say after that then! Sorry for killing your thread Moosh.
