Am 9+6. Last night I had a shocker of a night where I just couldn't sleep as I was so bunged up. Not snotty really, just stuffy.
I had Olbas Oil everywhere, the humidifier on and sat up in bed. Nothing seemed to help Sad.
Am so tired this morning and still very bunged up.
What can I do or take, does anyone knoe?

Poor you, it's miserable!

I had a couple of nights like that and went to the doctor (had a really nasty cough and fever too). Managed to get a few things on prescription but I am third trimester and I know they are more cautious in the first trimester.

Might be worth a visit to your doctor if it's affecting you that much, they'll be able to check their books to see what you can have.

Thanks Wriggle. Had a late night Google and think you're right, I won't be given much (or want to take much really) in first trimester.

I read about rhinitus of pregmamcy and am really hoping I don't have that (think it's a bit early).
Will go to pharmacy later and see what they say. Wondering about those strips for snoring?!

My neighbour lent me a plug in thing that you put a eucalyptus tablet in and have in your bedroom overnight.
Best nights sleep I'd had in the whole pregnancy!

blondiep14 · 25/02/2012 08:04

Littlemiss, that sounds great. I'm off to find me one of those later!

I had pregnancy rhinitis with exactly those symptoms at exactly the same point (am currently 31 weeks). I went to the doctor after horrendous sleepless nights and was prescribed a nasal steroid spray, which worked immediately. I cannot recommend it enough!

A bath in a room full of steam helps before bed and try an extra pillow.

Well, Friday night was OK but last night again I woke up with a nose as dry as the desert!
Seeing MW Friday so will be sure to mention it.
Will have a look in the week to see if there are any kind sprays over-the-counter that may help.

It's horrid, isn't it? I'm 36 weeks and have suffered from this since 1st trimester.
Try this www.amazon.co.uk/Sterimar-Hypertonic-Nasal-Spray-100ml/dp/B003TWMAM2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1330258350&sr=8-1
it's actually recommended during pregnancy and even for babies. It's basically just sea water.

blondiep14 · 26/02/2012 19:05

Are you still suffering Poppy? You poor thing!
Am fine in the day so beginning to feel its not my cold.
Will be giving that spray a go - thanks for the rec!

Blondie, I only really feel it at night in bed - during the day I'm absolutely fine.

The spray does help a lot, it's not as fast as a normal nose decongestants but after a couple of squirts it does clear up and I get to sleep again (until I wake up for the loo or with heartburn!)

Good luck!

GavisconJunkie · 28/02/2012 08:34

Oh dear. I do feel for you, but wait until youget to the last few weeks :0)

blondiep14 · 28/02/2012 08:36

Thanks Poppy - am currently sleeping with my head hanging over the humidifier which is helping a bit.

Saline nasal spray (in the children's medicine section) is fine during pregnancy. Feels horrible to use, but really clears your head!
