Just wondered if anyone has had painful ones, I know they aren't suppose to be but interested in seeing who agrees.

I've been slightly worried and packing my hospital bag tonight

Watching with interest as I can't decide if I'm having them or if I'm in labour (due today tho!) mine are painful but short 20 seconds or so. I can still talk when I'm having them which suggests they are not really contractions as such. They also ease off when I change from sitting to walking around etc so not convinced they are the real deal!

sillymillyb · 23/02/2012 21:07

I was thinking about this today as I don't think I have had any and I wasn't sure if that was normal either (36 weeks) my bump sometimes goes rock hard for a few seconds but there is no feeling - painful or otherwise - attached to it iyswim.

Will watch this with interest too! Oh, and how exciting fuckzia fingers crossed baby is on the way!

I am almost 34 weeks, and have been having pains starting in my back and radiating around tightening in my tummy off and on in the last few days, and was wondering at what point BH turn into contractions too, and this is DC4!

I have had BH in this pregnancy since about 25 weeks, common I know but since baby has been head down, I feel the past few days quite swollen and I am getting a bit twitchy too!

I have made an appointment for the midwife in the morning which is a week earlier than planned, just to make sure I haven't got a water infection as I read it can cause similar feelings.

Baby is very active, and feels very low getting a lot of stabs/scrapes in my fanjo area (TMI)!

Mine are getting quite uncomfortable, I'll update in the morning and let you know what midwife says, DH just thinks its because all my ligaments etc have give up as its DC4! Charming!

A top tip from mn from when I wasn't sure if it was braxton hicks/warming up pains/the real deal, was to take a bath. If it carries on after the bath, then better make sure those bags are packed!

brandysoakedbitch · 23/02/2012 21:13

Yes 32 weeks and stabby fanjo and painful BHs - had them last time though and he didn't turn up until 38 weeks!

threecurrantbuns · 23/02/2012 21:17

Well they have been constant today and ouchy.

I've also felt hot flushes and clammy too.almost like when I used to get period pains badly.

Driving me mad panicking about prem labour.

This is dc4 for me too, so keep telling myself my uterus is twitchy by now.

You would think you would know when labour is starting by no4. But I've had lots of bh with previous two and not known for sure when the real thing started as passed it off as bh with number3 then an hour later he had arrived.

Sigh, I hate this last trimester or wondering and waiting

Are you drinking enough water? I had painful BH with my DC2 and was In for monitoring twice around 30/32 weeks. One of the registrars asked me about water consumption, telling me that a thirsty uterus is a painful uterus!
I would also suggest getting checked out for a UTI as they can bring on labour in the later stages of pregnancy.

I know what it's like though, with DC3 I'd been having them every evening from about 25 weeks, so painful on occasion that when it was the real deal I was in denial until my waters broke!

threecurrantbuns · 23/02/2012 21:37

Drinking loads atm.

I was in denial with number 3 aswell was at a party and wasn't until I got a massive agonising contraction that I thought I better get to hospital quickly. And made it just.

lacka when did your number3 arrive? Early or not x

BHs always used to be much worse when I was overdoing things. It must be impossible quite hard with 3 dcs already, but can you get a days rest this weekend? Or at least a morning or afternoon?

Flisspaps · 24/02/2012 09:00

lacka that's interesting. I'm 34 weeks and have been having BH this week - I've even taken paracetamol to ease them. However I've been MEGA thirsty (CH on all the time and a cold) and since drinking enough to quench the thirst the BH have stopped. Didn't get any first time round, uncomfortable buggers aren't they?!

Fuchzia · 24/02/2012 09:03

Mine are definately not BH now!

LittleMissGoodEnough · 24/02/2012 09:44

Oooo, fuchzia, how exciting! Quick, start a labour thread! Sending good labour vibes your way, and hold-off labour vibes to all the rest of you pre-37 weekers Smile

I'm 34 weeks and I have been getting pretty uncomfortable/painful BHs. I seem to get them at night and in the evening so I definitely think it's water related. I try to have slightly less water in the evening so I don't have to get up so much but I think I'll just have to forget that idea! And yes if I do a lot (like go shopping in Ikea!) I find they'll strike me in the middle of store prompting concerned shoppers to wonder if I'm in labour!

Exciting fuchzia!

Fuchzia · 24/02/2012 18:42

Well I had him at 2pm can't believe how easy it was after my first (v traumatic) birth. Just gas and air and I came in prepared to take every drug under the sun. He was 9lbs 3oz and is beautiful.

Sorry to hijack your thread OP! Sending out good vibes to all you ladies!

VintageNancy · 24/02/2012 19:00

Congratulations Fuchzia! :)

LittleMissGoodEnough · 24/02/2012 19:37

That's lovely news, congratulations! Glad it went well as well, nice to know some labours aren't horrendous Wink

morethemerrier · 24/02/2012 20:31

Congratulations Fuchzia! Grin

My update is I appear to have a water infection! Sample sent off but she found Lackocytes and protien (?) but have antibiotics as she didn't want to leave it over the weekend.

Although, she has advised to call Triage if the pains get worse and more frequent as what I have described could also be pre labour!

Hoping the antibiotics settle everything down, so it was worth me getting checked out!

LackaDAISYcal · 24/02/2012 20:37

Get well soon morethemerrier, hopefully things will be more comfortable soon :)

Wow fuchzia, that was quick :o Congratulations :)

morethemerrier · 24/02/2012 21:18

Ahh thankyou Lacka! Grin

threecurrantbuns · 24/02/2012 22:09

Hopefully the antibiotics kick in asap.

Fushzia that is amazing news, glad it was quick and went well. Did you know what you were having.

Aww can't wait to meet my buba in a few weeks.
