34 weeks (almost), so starting to think about my hospital bag. I've been v frugal throughout this pregnancy (had to be, really). But; have a hankering for some nice pjs which will see me through hospital & feeding for a bit. Any ideas?

Primark do nice ones with button through tops for breast feeding (cheaper) or mothercare/next do feeding pjs (pricer) iv just bought a pair from bhs reduced, really roomy stretchy cotton with short sleeves as I found baby ward v v hot!!!x

I'll be watching this thread i'm 33 weeks and i've packed all of babys stuff and my breast/maternity pads etc but need to get toothbrush and shower gel and jim jams etc this weekend!

I saw some nice night shirts in tesco and the buttons were brill for feeding but a lot of people have told me it was very warm so i've gone off those now!

Cutelittlecatlover · 23/02/2012 15:34

I've just bought some mothercare ones on eBay for £5! Last time I got some primark pjs with buttons which were great for bf but I got light coloured bottoms which in hindsight was not such a good idea Blush

miaboo · 23/02/2012 15:54

I was going to say something with dark coloured bottoms! and a dark towel and flannel to :)

I bought a lovely Melba PJ and wrap set from the NCT website for my hospital bag. Huge waste of money, as I ended up with an EMCS and on a catheter. Treat yourself to a nightdress instead!

Davinaaddict · 23/02/2012 17:52

I've gone with buying yoga pants and feeding vests this time. Last time I had some great Mothercare ones, which were over the bump, and so didn't rub on my EMCS scar. All the pjs now are under the bump which I don't want, just in case I end up having another CS. Plus I'm not a nightie person.

I bought some cheap nightdresses from Matalan - mind you my baby girl was born in the summer. The hospital I was in, was stinking hot, and apparently is all year round. I actually found I binned everything I wore in hospital when I came home, mainly because it felt grotty (bear in mind you'll be bleeding etc after). Before I went into labour everyone advised me not to waste money on nice pj's - I'd say get some cheap ones for hospital, and get something nice to wear for when you get home. I got a lovely bf nightie from JoJo's - it felt great at the time to wear something pretty once I was home.

rosebery · 23/02/2012 18:13

All the maternity pj's I've come across this pregnancy have been under bump - right where a cs scar would be. Am having an elcs next week - don't usually wear nighties but have a couple of pretty nursing ones from mothercare from my last pregnancy.

I've got some comfy yoga pants to wear during the day which should be ok scar-wise.

Sneezeblossom · 23/02/2012 18:21

Dont bother splashing out for the hospital, everything gets trashed with blood, milk, baby sick and poo. Buy a nice dressing gown ready for when youre home.

Gooseysgirl · 23/02/2012 20:14

I second the Matalan nightdresses... They are only £6 and you can get ones that button down at the front. I bought 2 sizes bigger than what I would normally wear and am wearing them now ahead of the birth, they have washed v well and I'm going to pick up a couple more. On the advice of friends I've packed old dark coloured stretchy cotton pj bottoms and old vest tops for post natal ward.

Trickle · 23/02/2012 20:18

Get some really nice socks - something that will make your feet feet fab Grin

Joygirl78 · 23/02/2012 21:03

It's REALLY hard to put trouser bottoms on after giving birth. Get a night dress instead

Chesticles · 23/02/2012 22:40

For your hospital bag I would recommend a nightie. I had a catheter both times (forceps and really bad tearing 1st time - CS 2nd) and the 1st time the nurses only put my PJ top on cause of the tube. Meant I was bed ridden until DH arrived with a nightie! Mothercare do really ugly ones with buttons on the front for breast feeding.

NoHunIntended · 23/02/2012 22:44

Mamas and Papas have some lovely stuff, or if you can be bothered rifling, TKMaxx usually have a few pretty PJ things in, and ome lovely snuggly dressing gowns too.

RealLifeIsForWimps · 24/02/2012 01:29

I would suggest save the money and splurdge on a Shellaq mani/pedi instead (Shellaq is the UV one that lasts about a month- till it grows out basically - it doesnt chip). Made me feel a bit glamorous in those first few weeks

I wore a hospital gown for the first day and then some $4 tesco tracksuit bottoms (bootleg as more flattering to the post pregnancy body Grin) and feeding vests when I got home. Were great because I felt "dressed" but can easily slope off to bed in them too.

pootlebug · 24/02/2012 04:26

As pp said, don't waste money on fancy PJs for hospital itself - you will likely get blood on them just from the difficulty of changing pads fast enough immediately post birth. On the same subject - do get a dark colour!

Beamae · 24/02/2012 04:46

Just don't do what I did and buy cute harem style pyjama bottoms which come down to just below the knee. Bought them from Vertbaudet and thought they were perfect... Came with a feeding top, nice comfy bottoms avoiding the c section scar, short so good for the overheated ward. And how trendy. Except I didn't factor in those white stockings they make you wear so I was shuffling around looking like bloody Dick Whittington. Grin

Sneezeblossom · 24/02/2012 07:39

Definitely don't get a shell mani/pedi.
If you have a c section your nails need to be bare so that they can monitor the oxygenation of your blood.

Loonybun · 24/02/2012 07:43

I wouldn't buy special maternity ones - just buying a larger size to slob out in is much more comfy, possible with a vest top with nursing clips if you're breastfeeding (I didn't so just worse massive night shirts!) I'm a size 12 normally and I'm living in tesco's size 22 nighties - well at bedtime anyway!- they are fab!

RealLifeIsForWimps · 24/02/2012 10:46

Seriously? they don't insist on bare nails here (not UK) Sorry to mislead you OP. Obviously not a v good idea then.

Sneezeblossom · 24/02/2012 11:22

Even if you are having an emergency section they still whip off your nail polish with industrial strength acetone

RealLifeIsForWimps · 24/02/2012 11:59

ok, so they'd be really pissed off if you had a Shellaq then because it would take about 20 mins..... OP , I repeat, DO NOT get a Shellaq mani/pedi
