"Bruised" feeling in pubic area: is this the start of SPD or is it normal?

Hi, I think the subject line is pretty self explanatory... I have a weird "bruised" feeling in my pubic area when I walk. It is not particularly painful at the moment but I am very aware of it. Is this normal? Or am I heading towards SPD tries not to panic. I am self employed and have a very active job that requires a lot of walking pulling wheelie bags. I am trying not to panic because I can't take time off for financial reasons.

If it does sound like the start of SPD is there anything I can do to try and head it off? I am doing pregnancy pilates twice a week and a lot of walking but will happily do anything else to improve it. I am seeing an osteopath by coincidence this evening, but any suggestions would be most gratefully received.

Thanks xx

ps I should have said I am 23 weeks. Normal BMI, bit of a bump popped out. Nothing unusual about me physiologically.

I had that with both oregnancies, sometimes it feels as though someone has whalloped you between the legs, and other times just a general bruised feeling.

I would guess it is your pelvis adjusting and the weight of the baby on your cervix.

How many weeks are you? If you are in 3rd trimester I wouldn't worry unless it gets a lot worse.

Sorry xpost. Hmmm that seems early. Have a chat with the MW when you next go in.

And I have pregnancies not oregnancies Smile

Can you see ante natal physio in your area? Mine does a fabulous session aimed at preventing problems - they covered back care, safe lifting, even how to get dressed!! It was a self referral service and well worth the hour. I probably went too late but it still fixed all my issues with pain though I wish I'd gone earlier as I would have learnt how to avoid it all.

I got spd the first time at 20 weeks, and second time around 10 weeks so it isn't too early at all to have it start, but you need to ask your mw to refer you to the physio dpt, they can asses you and help you manage the pain, with exercises, support belt and mobility tools if you need them eventually.

Thanks. I'll raise it with the osteopath and see what she thinks. I just wasn't entirely sure whether SPD could start with this strange "bruised" feeling or whether that is a feeling that just happens anyway (along with all the other odd twinges and aches!). Thanks so much for your advice. I really appreciate it x
