DH worried my bump is too large

I am 26+3 and have an enormous bump. Everyone comments on it assuming Iam approaching my due date when I have another 14 weeks to go.Some people ask if I am sure it is not twins. I am very slim and I think this emphasises it. My husband is very worried it's getting too big and thinks I should request to see my obstetrician (MW said I was growing fine at 24 weeks appointment so he doesn't trust her judgement). He also doesn't want me to do my normal dog walking and such likes as he believes it must take too much out of me. We spend alot of time with our dog and I find taking her on walks relaxing and enjoyable so am not happy about that. Can your bump get so big it is harmful to you? Any advice?

If you are slimmer it can seem like you have a huge bump. My friend was a size 8 when she had her DS and her bump looked truly gargantuan. Her DS was a very normal weight. Can you pop down and be measured again just to reassure him? Comparing numbers on a chart in black and white he might feel better about things.

It's only harmful if the baby seems to be too large for dates or possibly too much water. If your midwife thinks things are fine I wouldn't worry. Maybe you just have a lot of fluid, not too much though. I was huge with my first and he was only 6lb 10. I had a lot of fluid. It also depends on how you are built. Some women carry more out front and others less so, it depends on how much room is in the torso, how tall you are etc.
If you are worried then ask to be referred for a scan.
Remember women can fit triplets and more in there. There risk there of course is that the babies are born early because there is no more room, but that would not be the case with youSmile

Is your DH medically qualified?

BTW, I had an enormous bump in my second pregnancy. I was huge. Lorry drivers leant out of their lorries to comment on it. Total strangers felt moved to make remarks. Friends sent emails to me from across the country saying they'd heard how huge I was.

I'd put on just one sodding stone - but all in front. And DD2 arrived 16 days early, weighing less than seven pounds, and continues to be really rather small. Oh, and the weight all went in a matter of a couple of months.

What SecondComing said.

And moderate exercise is good for you. Sitting on the sofa all day long-bad.

My bump is the only place that seems to grow so the weight is all on the front. I am not concerned just he. I am a little uncomfortable like my skin is going to explode but I assume that to be normal.

Midwives are heaps better than doctors at knowing the size of the baby (my doctor couldn't tell a head from a bum Hmm) Your DH is even less likely to know what is normal, so I would listen to the midwife. Your DH is proably just finding it alarming because you don't look like you used to. You're big for you.

And dog-walking is fine, so long as you're not getting tired and sore.

People commented on how big my bump was last time, lots of "no way, you look like you're about to drop" when I was only 26 weeks ish. But I was actually measuring spot on for dates and DS was on the small side when he was born, barely over 7lbs.

Same thing this time, although I had my first "about to drop" comment this week and I was 32 weeks at the time, so maybe it's not so bad this time.

Midwives spend every working day looking at bumps and measuring them. I don't think you'll get very far requesting an obstetric review on the grounds that you don't trust them to measure yours accurately (although I appreciate it's your DH's concern, not yours).

I've had 4 children, 2 mega babies 8lb 12oz and 9lb 4oz neat front bumps, and 2 'normal' size babies 7lbs 8oz and 8lbs 8oz, huge mega bumps (gallons of water!) people swore i was having twins/triplets! every bump is different.
Try not to worry x
