I have been so ill with morning sickness I'm not surprised I've lost weight (I vomitted my hot cross bun out of my nose this morning - lovely!). My appetite is non-existent I just feel sooo ill.

I've lost 10lbs since I got my BFP and my BMI is dropping. When does this become a concern? I have my scan a week on Tues and then a MW appt 3/4 weeks after that so wont see MW for another 6 weeks.

Not sure what to do??!!!

Sorry to hear that you are so ill. Morning sickness is the worst!
In my experience BMI will only become an issue once it drops below 18. I think dehydration will be more of a problem. Will you get to see a consultant during your scan? Perhaps you can voice your concerns during that? If, like me, getting a midwife appointment is almost impossible perhaps you could ask touch base with you GP instead? 3 or 4 weeks for an appointment is quite a long time!

You need to go and see your GP now . That is a lot of weight to have lost in that time period .

I was hospitalised at 9 weeks having lost 1/2 stone .
I was kept in for 8 days being rehydrated on an IV.

Are you keeping liquid down ?

There are various medications you can be prescribed to help withpregnancy sickness . You do not need to put up with it . If your GP happens to be unsympathetic go to a different one .

Also , have a look at the Hyperemisis support thread on here . It is
very good . I wish I had known about it during my pregnancies .

HTH. You have my sympathy !

Monkeycat is right, you should see your GP/Midwife for a check-up.

Although I lost over a stone my first 16wks, because I was keeping water down I was never hospitalised.

Speak to someone! :)

Hi all,

I did see my GP about 3 wks ago and he prescribed cyclazine but at the saame time told me not to take it if possible?!!

I told him I'd lost about 6lbs by that point and he didn't say anything. He took a urine sample and said I had ketones and was dehydrated. He just told me to drink more (I can keep liquid down, just not food).

He wasn't much help tbh!

I was on cyclizine and ranitidine for pretty much my whole pregnancy. Take it! Also take calcium and vit D tablets as well as pregnancy vitamins. Baby will take a certain amount from your body reserves but DS's teeth came through minus some enamel which we think was due to my hyperemesis and not having enough calcium for the crucial phase.

Great news that you can keep liquids down. If possible, could you try and get some nourishment that way (clear soups etc?) I know it's a cliche - but just try whatever helps, and teeny weeny mouthfuls of food whenever you can.

If it takes an hour to eat a slice of toast, then that's how long it takes!

On the plus side, I lost lots of weight in the first 4 months and had bad HG. I was nearly hospitalised, and was off work for 4 months too. Then, at 17 weeks, I stopped throwing up. By 22 weeks, I was back to pre-pregnancy weight, and now I've put on a stone! (34 weeks) My stamina took about 6 weeks to come back to anything approaching normal even after the HG stopped - DON'T RUSH IT.

And I'd second checking out the Hyperemesis Support thread - Lucinda and the girls are great, and it's so supportive.

Good luck!
