What is THIS now?! Sharp pain in inner left calf...

I'm 34 weeks, have been sat down all morning (this is one of my days at work (desk)) and have just experienced an excruciating pain down the inside of my left calf - feels like a vein popping open (I pulled up my trouser leg expecting to see something ruptured, but it all looks normal). Tried moving it / walking on it but still a sharp stabbing intermittent agony - any ideas anyone? Or just the usual pg related ligament vagueness? (Can deal with it while I'm sat at the desk, but not looking forwrad to chasing DS about with it for the rest of the week!)
Thanks Smile

hello laTris is it still bad? I would call hospital and ask them or your midwife. It is probably nothing but we do have to be extra carefull of dvt, I don't want to worry you so think if you call they can assess it for you?

FunnyBird · 22/02/2012 12:55

Don't want to worry you, but isn't DVT (Deep Vein Thrombosis) more common in pregnancy? Not good if you have a sitty downy all day type of job.
NHS direct?

And don't rub it. Agree, seek advice.

let us know how you get in latris

Could just be varicose veins but also could be a sign of DVT, there are some simple tests that can be performed to rule out a DVT so it would be best to give the hosp you are booked at a call, you may need review by a doctor so it would probably be quicker to go directly to the hospital rather than via your community midwife. :)

Three questions...

Is the area red?
Is it hot?
Do you have any back pain?

LaTristesse · 22/02/2012 13:30

Hokay, rang labour ward triage and spoke to lovely woman (I love my hospital!), who asked me the same as you Blx, and the answer was no to all - no redness, tenderness, swelling, heat, or local area pain other than the sharp pain. She's said therefore not a DVT and to get up, move about, take a paracetamol and keep an eye on it.. So I will! Thanks for all the replies, here's hoping it goes away! Smile
