We had the original babybjorn one with DD, and I didn't get on with it at all. I found that I couldn't put it on very well on my own (and so it didn't get used whenever DH wasn't around), and I also found that carrying DD in it hurt my shoulders and upper back.

I am due to have a CS again this time.

Can anyone recommend me a supportive sling that I can put on myself without help and supports my back and shoulders, especially after a CS?

I've heard that the Moby one is quite good, but I'm interested too as looking to get one!

I love my Close Baby sling. It's a soft fabric sling but it's simple to put on and take off by yourself, and sturdy at the back so gives support.

They are around £15-20 secondhand on ebay.

I had an imitation baby bjorn style carrier (tomy one) with DC1 and didn't use it much, but had a close carrier with DC2 and loved it so used it a lot more for DCs 2+3 and am looking forward to putting DC4 in it soon :)

From when DS was little I had a ring-sling from Freedom Slings on Ebay - brilliant and very simple to wear. Then I discovered Wilkinet slings which are amazing - once baby has head control you can pop 'em on your back which was brilliant.

We also had a Baby Bjorn that only DH would use - I suspect he thought the others looked a bit hippy... :)

i LOVE the moby wrap! i have also had a wilkinet and the close baby sling.

mai tais are also good and easy to put on.

the wilkinet and the moby are the two i would recomend tho :)

Moby wrap - I used mine easily after a cs.
It puts the baby into a comfy position, and when the baby is older, its legs are in a more natural position.
(I seem to remember reading something linking baby bjorn type carriers with hip problems)

I loooooove my Moby wrap. Cannot wait to use it again with this baby (only 6+5 at the moment) I did use my Wilkinet quite a lot too but the Moby was definitely more comfy for me (DH happily used both too!) :)

Marking spot and watching with interest ...

I can't really recommend one, as I never really got on with any, but I CAN recommend that you NOT BUY the Babasling! Awful, awful, awful! AngryGrin

Very much like a Moby, but a bit thinner and with tapered ends (which I found easier to tie, and less bulky) is a Hug-a-bub. They go 2nd hand on eBay for anything from £15 to £35 or so.

DefiniteMaybe · 20/02/2012 18:39

I agree with everyone saying the moby. I used mine with dd from birth until recently. She's now 6 months and I'm using a babyhawk.

Mummiestobe · 20/02/2012 19:08

We've got the KariMe Sling. It's really simple to put on & very comfortable. Cost us £50 xx

pootlebug · 20/02/2012 19:22

Agree with the stretchy wrap suggestions. My favourite brand is the Wrapsody one (thinner, but more supportive than the Moby - so lasts longer, and more comfy in summer). But the Kari Me, Hug-a-bub, Moby, Hoppediz stretchy, Boba Wrap etc are all brands to look for too. They all come up on ebay.

Impressed by the number of tie-it-yourself recommendations - I never truted my scout leader dad's genes quite enough Grin
I had a koorie sling from brightspark slings which I loved when they were tiny, then as they grew I couldn't carry them for long on one shoulder, but it cam back into use when they were wanting to walk but couldn't manage the distance - a less bulky alternative to the hippychick hip seat, just made carrying htem on my hip easier

Great thread. I'm currently trying to decide between a Moby and a Close sling - any advice? I liked the simplicity of putting on the Close sling and was a bit intimidated by the Moby, but the shop assistant who modelled them and helped me try them on with a doll said she thought the Moby was lighter for use in summer (baby due mid- to late- March), not having the rings and the back pad.

Any thoughts, anyone?

HappyAsEyeAm · 21/02/2012 14:14

Thanks very much for pretty consistent advice.

I have been reading reviews of the moby on the back of this thread - some people are suggesting that its hard to put on by yourself. Have any of you found this? And others suggest that it is very long (I am short and quite small framed) - does anyone have any experience of the shorter ones? And others say that it is hot to use in the summer - any way round this please?
