I've my booking in appointment with midwife on Thurs, I'll be 7+1. What is the norm? I've read that some people didn't get theirs til almost 11 weeks! Is 7 weeks too early? I can't remember when I went with my first son.

They are a bit earlier these days because lots of areas offer the nuchal scan as the norm and it needs to be booked for around 12weeks ish.

When I had mine nuchal was private only and £150, ouch. Same process though, general medical history, leaflets on what not to eat etc. Not many appointments with the 2nd baby unless there are concerns. BP check, urine check.

Thanks, I thought it may be due to the booking process of the nuchal scan. Just didn't want to be told by the midwife that I needed to come back again for booking appointment as I was too early!

I am in same boat although mine will be even earlier! Would be great to know hwo you get on - and thanks for posting on my thread

It takes a while. Lots and lots of form filling, medical history, advice etc. They also weigh, measure height, do bp and initial blood tests here. But they may do your bloods at the same time as the nuchal instead. Take a urine sample too.

I had mine at 8 weeks. I think this is the norm now. They took bloods and lots of details. I booked my 12 week scan at the surgery reception when I booked the midwife appointment, and at the appointment the midwife gave me my scan date letter.

Hi there,

I had me appointment with doc at 6 weeks and booking with midwife at 7 weeks. She came to my home and filled in all the forms and went through my history.
I have an appointment with MW + GP this wed for height, weight, BP and bloods taking. I will also be scanned by GP Shock The scan is due to our location and the fact I shall have to travel considerable distance for nuchal scan so it is very important I am sent away at the right gestation.

Its been so long since my last it all feels very different!

I feel the same GizzyBoo! My son is 5 and I can't really remember all the booking in process etc when I was pregnant with him....it seems so long ago. I live in Scotland and I think while reading into things that we may be seen slightly sooner up here than they do south of the border. I did explain when I phoned my GP surgery that I had just found out I was pregnant and the receptionist said that they normally leave it about 2 weeks before I would be seen by a midwife and she made an appointment for me to go two weeks later. I think I may just have a longer wait from now til when I need to go for my scan which I presume is still around 12 weeks......It seems endless!!

I'm in Scotland too Gemmy but I am not on the mainland hence the need for the GP to scan and travel to hospital for the nuchal.

I am trying to gather all my info to try and convince them I can go for a home birth on the island but its not common and I'm scared I am gonna be forced in to going to the mainland to give birth too Confused

Aww, thats a shame! It must be a bit of a hassle for you having to travel to appointments, scans etc. Hopefully you will have a text book pregnancy and will be able to have the home birth you so desperately want.

I'm in Ayr in the South west. My sister-in-law is pregnant with her 3rd child and her midwife actually asked her if she had considered a home birth, so you never know...fingers crossed. :)
