Does anyone know if low blood pressure is harmful in pregnancy to the baby, i know high blood pressure is. My blood pressure have been 90 over 60 since i got pregnant and i do feel the effects, but my midwife doesn't seem concerned atall.... should i not be concerned too?

My blood pressure has been around that for the duration of this pregnancy, my midwife always refers to it as nice, healthy and low. It's only the last week I've felt any ill effects from it tbh (am 36 weeks) as I now find it more of a challenge to be stoos still, several times I've left shopping behind as I just cannot stand in a queue without feeling faint. But your blood pressure sounds fine.

Thanks Fuckity (was you angry when you came up with your name? lol ;) )

it does make me feel dreadful at times, especially at work, being on my feet and stretching and bending all the time. I just wondered if i felt like that then what must it be doing to my baby if its blood supply isn't great.

I don't think it affects the baby's blood supply tbh. But if you have a very physical job, have they done you a pregnancy risk assessment? I'd find that very difficult if I had to do that stuff reguarly. I've been told today by both a friend and dp when I was standing up for just about 5 minutes that I looked like utter shite and tbh I felt it. I think if anything my iron levels might be causing a problem now too, so I'm going to ask to have those checked at my appointment tomorrow. Have you had an iron level taken recently?

Its not a physical job as such, i mean it can be, i work in retail, its only part time but even that after so long on my feet, i'm bent over double sometimes serving customers which isn't pleasant.
My iron levels surprisingly were very good, i had trouble with that with my first pregnancy but seem to be doing well this time round. Might be a different story when i go back next month (i seem to only see my midwife every couple of months).
Yes definitely get yours checked, if you're feeling drained and exhausted and tired aswell. Its not pleasant, especially when you have to keep going and get stuff done.

You can get signed off if it makes you lightheaded. I literally couldn't stand still for 2 mins without fainting when I was 20 weeks, so had to spend a week at home.

Good excuse to eat lots of crisps BTW

pixiepud · 19/02/2012 23:56

I did a health assessment at work and did mention i have low blood pressure which makes me feel weak and faint on my feet, but at my place you literally have to be dying to be signed off or anything, they just tell me i can have a sit down and a drink when i need to. But being main till girl, its not nice having to serve while bending over double and rushing so you can rush away to sit down. Some days are ok. mmmm crisps, i'm mad on them, could eat some now.

Your Gp can sign you off, your work won't be able to do anything, especially as its pregnancy related.
