Lost mucus plug at 32 weeks?

SleepingWithGhosts · 19/02/2012 22:18

I am 32 weeks pregnant (well in the morning anyway) and am pretty sure I lost my mucus plug today.

Have had no pain or any labour signs etc.

I have never lost my mucus plug naturally before as my first DD was an induction and my DS a c-section so although this is number 3 it's a bit new to me but I can't see what else it could have been and from looking on google images (gross I know) what I lost seems to be the plug.

Is this a problem?

I know it normally means labour is a few days / weeks away but as i'm not full term yet does this mean I will go into premature labour or can you lose the plug early and still go full term?

Thanks!

Hiya hope your ok. Just bumping up your thread - hopefully someone will be along shortly to answer! My advice - call ur midwife or labour ward, they will advise u best xx

SleepingWithGhosts · 19/02/2012 23:09

Midwife has advised I get checked at hospital for dilation / contractions but I KNOW there is nothing happening and she seems to use go to hospital as the advice for EVERYTHING.

Can't go tonight though so pointless going tomorrow as it would be clear by then if I was in labour anyway.

i would say go and get checked out because although it feels to you as if nothing is happening your cervix may be getting ready and softening so at least you would know it will be happening shortly and they may give you steroids for babies lungs if they think its imminent, they take 48 hours so better be safe :) your not going to hurt anything getting checked out? good luck x

cutegorilla · 20/02/2012 07:45

You need to go, as said above, if anything is happening (and you wouldn't necessarily know) then they will probably want to give you steroids for the baby. Better to be safe than sorry. Fingers crossed everything is ok.

You need to go to hospital - not urgently as in right this moment but you need to be seen. I lost my about 10 days before I went into labour but didnt' realise at the time that that is what it was. It can be a sign that something may be happening down there - get seen today. xx

any news????

igggi · 20/02/2012 13:34

There is a reason why your midwife uses "go to hospital" as her advice for "everything" - at your stage in pg it's the right thing to do!

SleepingWithGhosts · 20/02/2012 21:27

I understand that igggi but I have a severely disabled child who can't just be left without a lot of planning and organisation and I don't drive (hospital is an hours drive away) so it also means finding someone to give me a lift as well as care for my son.

It's just not possible for me to go to hospital everytime they suggest it unless it really is serious / urgent.

Anyway no news, nothing happening but have got a routine antenatal on Thurs so will mention it then.

Do they still give steroids at 32 weeks? I thought lungs were developed at this point already?

That sounds really tricky for you. Have you a plan for if/when you go into labour?
I'm just so paranoid myself, if they let me move into the hospital now I'd be happy! Can't you just phone the hospital/midwife to ask for advice? Thursday long time away.

SleepingWithGhosts · 20/02/2012 22:23

I am having a c-section at 38 weeks due to placenta previa / breech baby so no worries about going into labour as will have a definate date to plan around, providing nothing starts before of course.

Have phoned for advice but all she says is go and get checked out.

Google says that it can happen though and it regenerates so not a huge issue by the sounds of it, maybe just time to take it easy a bit.

oh im sorry sounds like a difficult situation, if you called your own community midwife and explained might she come to see you?? i thought they gave steroids anytime under 37 weeks?? maybe wrong though?? good luck and hope you keep going till 38 weeks, definitely take it easy :)

igggi · 20/02/2012 22:32

Really you need a midwife who'll do housecalls - not much chance of that I suppose! Hope it all goes well on Thurs.
