Hi All,

Just been recomended this by a friend - currently 23 wks -who said she took manuka 18+ when she had flu at the end of last year and it worked wonders.

Curious if anyone else is or has taken it in pregnancy for flu or anything else and what you think of it.

Thanks

I used it with lemon to fight off an awful sore throat, seemed to work.

that's funny i was just wondering the same... sorry that must mean your poorly. hope you get well soon. what's the verdict, are we okay to take it in pregnancy?

joymaker · 19/02/2012 20:56

riamay2011 Smile I looked on amazon to compare prices and read reviews before I posted. I wondered what the verdict from pregnant MNetters would be before I went ahead and purchased some - pretty pricey stuff! riamay have you used it?

Actually not poorly but just wanting to know if this would be a good option should I become so.

twizzlestix thanks for your feedback

I havnt used it during pregnancy - havnt needed to, but use it every time I have a cold and it really really helps with hayfever! If I get a cold or my havfever starts while pregnant I'll deff be buying a pot of it! I don't even like honey but it works so I stomach it in tea and warm milk Grin

I've been using it for years and routinely take a spoonful a day. I haven't stopped taking it during pregnancy.

As far as I know it is perfectly safe to take during pregnancy but as with all types of honey it can't be given to newborns. Because of the botulism thing.

My dd recently went to dr because of repeated tonsillitus (sp) he advised taking locally produced honey to boost her immune system and said it would help with tiredness caused by pnd.
Unfortunately the honey is solid and she can't bring herself to take it - been told to suck small amount like a toffee.
Is Manuka honey the same?

The really high concentrate stuff has antibacterial properties. It's used to make wound dressings for example. Can't see how it would help with flu or cold though as they're usually viral?

Thanks all, think I might buy a pot. I've concluded it would be worth a try Smile
