Dh and I are currently ttc. We have a couple of weeks holiday booked in May/June time and looking for ideas. I have looked and if we get the awaited bfp I will be ok to fly as not far enough gone but I'm not sure how I feel about going abroad. We had a mc in Dec so I have a couple of questions. Am I being stupid? Should we stay in uk just in case I get any bleeding? Should we wait a few more weeks before deciding? Im ov next week so if it works then I will be approx 14 weeks (if my maths are correct) if month after 10 weeks etc etc. just not sure whether we should get a week in the sun while we can or have a couple of weeks somewhere nice in uk such as Cornwall? Thanks for reading xx

I went abroad at 14 weeks and had hyper emesis. The advice my consultant gave me was : pressure socks on plane, aspirin before flight, don't put your tummy directly in the sun for long , drink plenty. Oh and make sure your insurance is good and you know what it covers with regards to pregnancy.

Good point thanks completely forgot about checking my insurance covers pregnancy. I'm really wanting some sunshine but just a bit scared incase I have any bleeding etc.

It will cover pregnancy, they all do but it's what care they cover if you need hospital etc. Healthcare is excellent in Spain, Cyprus and many other places. But if you are worrying all of the holiday it's not worth it is it? Why not wait until nearer the time?

Sad though it is, if you're going to miscarry there's nothing anyone can do to stop it, so being somewhere near a great international hospital won't help in that regard, although it may help with diagnosis.

You cant put your life on hold because you might get pregnant at some point in the next year or so, although I know it's really easy to get into agonising over every little plan in the next 9 mo. In fact, the best way to guarantee an instant BFP is to book a highly strenuous mountaineering holiday Grin

Joking aside, things to avoid are unpressurised planes (so no fly in-fly out safari camps), diving trips and wine tours. I flew back to the UK for Christmas at 7 wks and have to say that jet lag and early pregnancy exhaustion (plus a jet lagged toddler) were not a great combination, so maybe also avoid anywhere with a big time difference.
