Hello all,
I'm currently 22 weeks pregnant with baby no 2, and for the last 6 or so weeks have been in so much pain with my hips and feel really stiff after sitting/lying down. Has anyone got any advice?
I should probably mention my bump is pretty huge..
Thanks x

Hi readyforno2 I can really sympathise with you I was admitted to hospital the other week with the same thing and they thought it was ligament related. However, after seeing the MW yesteday an getting some info on PGP I suspect it could be that.

There are days when I can barely walk up stairs and it has been worse in the past few days, after the mW measured my bump he has gone from tracking the growth chart perfectly to being too big.

Go and get checked out. I am off to the MW again next week and will raise it again. The best thing I have found is to have a warm bath as it relaxes the muscles. The only pain killer you can take parecetomol.

xx

Please try and get referred to a physio ASAP! There are various exercises etc that may be helpful. Mine also gave me a support belt thingy which whilst not magically solving the problem did mean I could walk to the corner shop and back without my legs going into cramp for the next hour! She said if I had seen her earlier there would have been more that she could do so it is worth being a squeaky wheel on this!

Also try lying with a pillow between your legs. I found that quite helpful.

Thank you all for your replies, am seeing my mw next week so will talk to her then, I can't even this about being admitted. My partner works offshore and i've got to look after my son (4). Baths do make a bit of a difference but not for very long and I don't really want to take painkillers unless I have no option
Thanks again and good luck to all x

Pregnancy physio would be your best bet for helping you and probably a 'sexy' support belt - I got to wear one hated it but it made life bearable.
I have arthritic hips which really didn't like a huge baby bump bearing down on them and caused me agony from early on but physio was great (although the arthritis limited what she could do)

All the more reason you need to get some proper help ASAP! You don't want to end up on crutches / completely immobile.

I also had some help from an osteopath which was miraculous for dealing with trapped nerves, that might be worth looking in to as well.

Also make sure you don't sit down for more than half an hour at a time - get up and move around. A birth ball instead of a hard chair can be helpful. Rest as much as you can (I know not easy to do!) and if you're working make sure you have a proper H&S in pregnancy assessment. Good luck!

I was suffering from this a few weeks ago (I a now 34 weeks), and I found that if I slept with a pillow between my legs and then I laid slightly on my side with my top leg on top of the pillow IYSWIM, that helped massively. Before that my hips were aching all day and all night, and it was really painful, now there's no pain at all! Good luck x
