Symphysis pubis dysfunction, is anyone suffering this during their pregnancy? I am 20 weeks pregnant and in agony, looking for tips on how to control the pain if anyone can help.

I'm with you on this one.. I'm 27 weeks and in absolute agony.. I can barely waddle !! I've bought a tummy support band today as advised by the midwife dunno if it's helping or not but hey I'm willing to give anything a go !! The midwife also told me not to take painkillers because I should be managing it without the need for them.. Although I was laid in bed last night sobbing in pain so I took paracetamol sod what she says.. Hope you arnt feeling too bad !! Take it easy Smile

New, I can't believe she's told you to copw without pain relief, that is bloody awful!! I was prescribed strong codeine from 30 weeks as paracetamol stopped working on it

I had it really bad, was in pain from 11 weeks, on crutches at 20 weeks and didn't leave the house for the last month of pg (had elcs at 38 weeks)

My biggest tip would be to learn how to keep your pelvis locked. Alway have your knees facing forwards. And in bed, sleep slightly sat up with a pillow widthways under your legs so your knees are bent and feet are flat on the bed. This puts less pressure on the pelvis so getting up should be easier. To get out of bed, sit up and turn on the spot keeping knees together then stand. Its all about keeping the pelvis supported and closed, opening your legs too far puts pressure on it all and makes the pain worse

I've been given co-codamol (quite a low dose, but better than paracetamol) for my SPD. Your midwife is talking rubbish New - so they are prepared to give you opiates during labour but mild painkillers are bad? Hmm

Get a referral to see a physio who specialises in maternity, the manipulation and advice has helped me. And rest, lots of rest.

I thought it was harsh.. She said I should be learning how to move properly to cope with it rather than taking pain killers to mask it and do more damage !! Next step is the doctors I think to be referred
