Hey

At the end of my tether and hoping someone on here can reassure me!

I?m 6 or 7 weeks pregnant with my first child.

And I am shattered! I know that tiredness is normal but I have called in sick to work today and slept all day and I?m still tired. Is this level of tiredness normal? I keep thinking something is wrong!

On top of this I have the most horrendous trapped wind. I?m curled up in agony and my tummy is puffed out like a balloon and so tender. I?ve been sick a couple of times but most of the pain is coming from the bloatedness. I just don?t know what to do, all food seems to make it worse to the point where I am getting scared to eat. I?ve tried stretches to loosen things but nothing is happeneing.

Are these normal symptoms? How can I cope better?

I can barely concentrate on a tv show nevermind make it to work? But a part of me thinks I am pregnant not ill, I should be able to cope with this! But I just feel totally miserable Sad

Can anyone help?

Congratulations! Come and join us on the OCT 12 board. And yes, totally normal I'm afraid

But do see your doc if you are worried x

That sounds like how I was. Truly, I felt like I had the flu for the first several weeks - I got out of breath just walking a block, and spent most of the day lying down (and this from someone who ran several miles a day). The only consolation I can give you is that it does pass.

Not sure on the bloating, but the tiredness is normal. I thought I was tired in my first pregnancy (and I was) but in my second, I had never experienced such utter, bone-crushing exhaustion. It was awful.

Yes totally normal I'm afraid, I could have slept all day and all night then hit 12 weeks and suddenly had all my energy back, so fingers crossed you do too. I was told that your body is using loads of energy and supporting the baby as there isn't a placenta yet and growing a baby uses loads of energy too.

Bloating is really common too, try and drink water as is meant to make it better and avoid fizzy drinks, food that make wind e.g baked beans.

But if you are worried go see your GP or midwife.

Hope you feel better soon and congratulations.

Congrats! And sorry you're feeling rubbish, but I think this is pretty normal. I've been suffering from extreme fatigue, it's really bad. I had a few good weeks, but I am SO shattered all the time..

and I'm also really bloated, like extreme bloating Blush. It's so uncomfortable, i think there was a post about bloating earlier this week, someone recommended peppermint tea and fybogel, I can't do a link at the moment, but if you search back a few pages you'll probably spot it.

I have no other suggestions on how to cope better, but if anyone else has I'll be taking them on board too.. :)

Good luck, and while I can't be any more reassuring (as I'm still waiting for mine to pass) hopefully you'll feel better to know it;s not just you.

But do see dr/mw if you're feeling really bad. :)

WeeSooty it could be trapped wind, but as someone who suffered agony at 6 weeks thinking it was trapped wind, and was eventually bullied persuaded by DH to go to the docs, it turned out to be a cystic corpus luteum (although mine was large and very painful, it wasn't a risk, and had disappeared by 20 weeks)

I told my doc I thought it was probably trapped wind, and he said you should always go see the doc if you have severe pain in early pregnancy, because of the danger of it being ectopic - better to rule it out, huh?

And even if it does turn out to be trapped wind, if it is causing that much pain, the doc can suggest some remedies, right?

Good luck and congratulations Smile

Thank you so much for your advice everyone :)

Just a quick update, on Thursday night I really was in agony, rolling about with pain, called NHS 24 who sent me to the outpatient clinic? Idiot doctor was incredibly rude to me, pummled my tummy and left me in tears saying to go to my own doctor as I had an ulcer?!?! Hmm

So ended up waste of time visiting the clinic but did make an appointment to see my GP yesterday. She was fantastic, sent me straight up to the emergency unit for some tests and a scan. Good news! The baby is all fine, in the correct place and we got to see its wee heart flickering! Grin They diagnosed me with IBS and gave me some tablets which so far seem to be working miracles! I?m not 100% better but I am a million times better than I was!

Hopefully these tablets should chill my tummy out and maybe take care of a bit of the tiredness as well.

Thank you everyone for the advice and congratulations, I really appreciate it!

Feeling so rough when your first pregnant is just the pits. But rest assured it all does pass. I was off work more than I was in work for the first couple of months, with sickness, pains, bleeding. You name it it hit me Blush. What you need to remember is that your body is going through some massive changes just now, so everything kind of goes in to whack! I had the awful breathlessness, which I was told was down to the increase in blood in my system. So rest when you need to and listen to your body. Oh and huge Congratulations Grin

Now 20 weeks down the line and I feel fab Smile
