Baths in pregnancy - are they ok??!!

I was assured today by a rather annoying earnest woman that you shouldn't have baths during pregnancy as the warm water heats you up internally and is bad for the baby.

This sounds to me like the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard but she was adamant and pregnancy hormones are making me doubt my own common sense.

Am too embarrassed to ask any RL people in case they think I'm completely gullible so can anyone tell me if this is right or not??! Thanks.

iggi

"I do worry that my idea of just warm might be someone else's idea of boiling.."

This is exactly what I worry about! I haven't had one during pregnancy, would love to but I'm not sure if its worth the risk?

You can give birth in water, of course you can have a bath! If you feel dizzy when you get out, run it a bit cooler next time. In late pregnancy, you may find the bath is the only place you feel comfortable. You may also need a tug to get out.

I love hot (boiling a lobster) baths but had to give then up now I'm pg but it is okay for the bath to be 100-107 degrees Fahrenheit. This shouldn't increase your core temps too much which is the main problem.

As others have said, as long as it's not boiling hot you'll be fine. I don't normally bother with baths but with this pregnancy I've been so achy that I have about 3 a week. My bump is so big though that the water doesn't cover even half of it, even with the bath full, so I've been having warmer ones to help with my back pain.

A good warm bath is the best thing at the end of the day when ds is in bed and i can just soak. never really liked hot baths so not missed anything. i have been told by a few oldies not to have hot hot baths as i may boil my baby!!?

i was at cener parcs a few weeks ago and the jacuzzi ( right spelling??) said seek medical advice before going in, the water was no warmer then my baths so spent just about all week in there. the bubbles made me feel a little light headed so sat on the side when they came on.

is it ok to have a hot water bottle on my back which hasnt stopped aching since conception of my little tadpole (as hubbie is calling the baby) i am sure!!!

he is quite strict on me saying no to baths but my back is killing me :(

harleyd · 14/03/2013 09:22

i asked my consultant last week about steam rooms and hot tubs and apparently they are ok too

Catchingmockingbirds · 14/03/2013 09:27

hopeful tell him to bugger off and have your bath!

rabbitfrommars · 14/03/2013 10:46

I'm 33 weeks, and I've taken to having a bath almost every night, I put bio oil into the water so I also get moisturized skin at the same time.

Joinourclub · 14/03/2013 10:50

I have regular baths still. Couldn't give them up. I just have them a little cooler than before. I think I probably have them hotter than is recommended, but it's winter and my bathroom is cold! I figure as long as it isn't turning my skin red then it isn't too hot. I also take a large glass of water in with me. And now I'm bigger my bump sticks out if the water anyway!

Sorry cant believe people's other halfs tell them what they can do in pregnancy!! Next it'll be no pain relief for you, it can't hurt that much!
I have a bath every day and did with dd, turned the temperature down abit from my usual scalding- in sweeden they still recommend saunas!
As someone else pointed out what did out parents do without all this advice to stop us boiling our babies Wink
