Ive got to have the glucose test i was told i was just over the line. its embarassing tho as on my notes it says High risk as very high BMI im like thanks for putting that on there! Im really trying to be good but im craving rubbish i eat a little fruit and quite oten veg. I dont get a lot of exersise due to long hours from 8am till 9pm nd on my day of jus want to sit and relax. im had today a bowl of cereal, a bacon sandwhich, 3 ryvtas with marmite and some rice and chicken for dinner. Does this sound too much? im worried ill be huge at the end and i wont get it off as i didnt before and my hubby will think im huge : ( really fed up !

Hi Op, I haven't any medical knowledge or experience but what you ate sounds pretty reasonable to me. You WILL gain weight with pregnancy - that's the way that it should be BUT you might want to think about trying to up your fruit and veg intake. I know that's easier said than done due to cravings but it's worth a shot. Also, try to keep well hydrated as you may be mistaking thirst for hunger.

My own BMI was 27 when I saw my midwife for my booking in appointment so I understand the concern about putting weight on. Maybe try to limit your takeaways to one at the weekend?

Take care!

Should have been a Bacon, lettuce, and tomato sandwich!

What is your actualy BMI? 100kg doesnt say much unless you are 4 foot tall IYSWIM.

That said, i do know how you feel. I started out at 5'8 and a size 14/16 with DD1 and finished up about a size 18. I was slowing slipping back down to a 16 when got pregnant with DD2 (currently 26 weeks) and am ballooning upwards towards 20. I dont really like my body at the moment and fear how big i will be by the time DD2 is born.

My diet is not the best. i seem to be constantly hungry though what i eat is generally ok i think. Just too much of it. I am trying to substitute bad snacks for good ones where i can and just generally be aware of what and how much i am eating.

I do try to remember though when i can feel myself start to feel down about it that our bodies are meant to store fat while we are pregnant and getting too het up about it is a waste of time. Both my mum and my sister piled on weight when pregnant. I figure that i am just programed that way.

I am planning a mega shred once baby is born however. Smile

I really don't want to be a foodist or anything but I do think someone needs to put it to you straight - 100kg is 15 1/2 stone. Even if you were six foot, that's still a lot - I think standard for six foot is supposed to be around 11.5/12.5 stone.

I really don't want to make you feel bad but there's no sense beating around the bush :(

If you can, do you think you could try cutting out the bread and rice and just focus on protein and veggies? Lots of leafy greens like spinach, kale, broccoli and others contain high quantities of folate so you'd be giving your baby lots of good nutrients that way too.

I can't always get them down easily so I cook them in butter with some spices - seems to help them go down easier.

Don't try to diet whilst pregnant! I started off slim (but haven't stepped on the scales since 16 weeks) and today I've had a bowl of bran flakes with sultanas, plain yogurt with a bit of cereal and honey, a not-philadelphia and cucumber sandwich. This afternoon I'll have chocolate biscuits fruit and nuts for snacks, then something like risotto with pork and veg for dinner and more cereal for dinner.

I find I have to eat every 2-3 hours so plan portions accordingly rather than let myself get hungry.

Importantly, talk to your midwife about diet, drink plenty of water (I sip through 2-3 litres a day atm) and make sure you get plenty of veg and protein with your meals.

The food you are eating doesn't sound particuarly unhealthy (though maybe try and avoid 'treating' yourself to a take-out on the weekends). You might want to check your portion sizes, I found that I was eating much more than I should.

A bowl of cereal for instance, sounds fine but my bowls of cereal are now about half of my husbands (he fills the bowl to the brim! I used to too ). Try weighing out 30-40g of cereal (check your packet for serving size) and see what that looks like in your bowl. You don't need to weigh things out everyday, but just seeing what a serving size looks like on your own plates can help.

I found that portion sizes were a big chunk of my problem. I lost 6 stone in the year before I got pregnant (I'm still big, need to lose about the same again to be in the healthy BMI range).

I'm also more aware of the energy content of food. I don't count calories everyday or have a set target, but I am aware of how different food choices can drastically affect my intake. And sometimes with snack/treat foods, I look at the calorie content and decide it's really not worth it.

If you had a vegetable portion or two with your main meal then you could have a bit less rice. You would end up with a bit better nutrition and fewer calories, without changing things a lot. It can be something as simple as beans, sweetcorn or peas, if you aren't feeling too adventurous.

Another tip: Use smaller plates - makes small/normal portions seem bigger

I've lost a bit of weight since my booking in appointment, aided and abetted by morning, noon and night sickness. I know it won't keep going down forever, but I hope to maintain at this weight (or slightly lower) for as long as possible before putting on baby weight.

Still kind of annoyed that my booking in appointment was 27th December, so my 'official' weight was on the high side for me leftover turkey

I'm hoping that my risk of gestational diabetes and other weight related issues will be reduced because I'm not eating as much as other people of my weight as I've been losing weight fairly consistantly over the last 14 months. Although weight loss isn't reccomended in pregnancy, I'm just carrying on with the non-drastic lifestyle changes I made before I got pregnant and the midwives seem fine with that.

I agree BTW that you shouldn't go 'on a diet' there's no need for drastic measures. You certainly shouldn't starve yourself. But do speak to your midwife about healthy eating.

Hi thanks for the advice ! I've put on a lot Im hoping it's water tee hee! I will try and reduce portion sizes and see how I go ! I do usually only have one take away a week and we cook the rest of the week it's tough tho doing rubbish hours! I also think the fact Iam sat in the car all the time (due to my door to door job) does not help one bit!
