I'm 21 weeks pregnant and for the last few weeks I've been having really bad constipation, which I know is normal and am taking zofran for sickness which I know can worsen things. However, I have also noticed that there is a lot of this mucous stuff there, and recently (about the past 3 weeks) there's been bright red blood. I have been putting it down to possibly having piles and been using cream for it which seems to improve things a little bit but as soon as I have a day where I eat crap and not drink enough water it comes back again! Yesterday was awful, was really constipated and when I did go there was quite a bit of blood and really hurt! I felt ill all night afterwards and just had to lie on the sofa. I've also noticed that I seem to have lost my appetite over the past few days and feel absolutely weak and exhausted. Has anyone else experienced anything similar? Sorry for the TMI!

I have been getting the mucusy poo too, i have ibs though so although it is more normal for me, it has increased A LOT!

Also so constipated, but because i am not eating a lot, drinking lots of juice and milk, maybe some toast or crisps Blush but i can't really eat much of a main meal at the moment, so hopefully when i get my appetite back i will be on the vegetable pasta bakes and fresh salads!

All i can say is eat more fibre ( which i can't it aggrivates my ibs Sad ) and drink lots of water, pinapple juice, it helps me go sometimes.

I have also had a bit of ibs in the past although I hadn't had a flare up for a while before getting pregnant. Some days I can be really good with eating fibre and drinking water and then others it all goes to pot and I pay for it! The blood is a bit scary but I've never had that before pregnancy so am putting it down to piles Blush

Im 20 weeks and I get all this too. It all stems from consitpation and piles Im afraid! Ive also had the bright red blood following a poo. It terrified me the first time before I realised what it was! The mucus stuff is related to the piles too. My midwife recommended taking lactulose - a couple of teaspoons on a morning and an evening. Its totally safe for baby and wont harm you either. Its available over the counter at the chemists. It helps to soften things and gives any tears chance to heal without having to strain and rupture them again. It helped me so much. You can take it throughout pregnancy.Try not to worry, your symptoms sound exactly like mine. The tiredness is also related to it all - your body is having lots to try and deal with at the moment as well as a sluggish digestion slowing you down even more. Hope you feel better soon!

ooooh i have been getting the mucus also!!!! what the hell is that and why??? x

It is strange isnt it?! Im not sure of the whys but it is to do with straining and piles and other yucky stuff like that! I had it slightly even before pregnancy so I knew I would be in for a rocky road in that department.

Hee hee!!! i bet this is one thing you never hear those annoying celeb mums talk about or write columns on!!! Real stuff here!!! ;) x

I have suffered from being blocked all through both pregnancies. Midwifes say "eat more fibre" - yet i couldn't possibly eat more fibre if i tried, was living on it.
You can get lactulose on prescription (ie free if you are pregnant).
However, i hated it (which tastes of vile syrup) but prefered fybogel sachets which you make into a thick drink - it's orange, down it quickly. Take 1-2 each day, it's a natural fibre husk and it really helps. This way it's preventative - as these things don't work after you have a blockage, they just prevent a blockage in the first place.
You can buy them in the chemist and bigger supermarkets - more cost effective in the bigger packs of 30 sachets. Not sure this is offered on prescription, but it is totally safe in pregnancy.
