I don't think they give it once winter is over. My GP said not to bother as I got pregnant in January.

Tanyaaah · 15/02/2012 09:53

I had it. Nice to know you aren't going to get flu! I had it in November though, I think.

Mikocat · 15/02/2012 09:54

I had it very early on and saw no reason not to as it actually provides the baby with some immunity too.

Isn't it a bit late in the season now though?

If your GP recommends it, do it.

buonasera · 15/02/2012 09:56

I had it at about 8 weeks and I'm glad I did it because I've caught every cold going all winter! Immune system has gone on holiday for the duration...

Have a look on the NHS website, they do recommend it. It's done with inactivated virus, not live virus, so it's thought to be completely safe for pregnant women.

One thing to watch out for - Boots won't do it if you're pregnant so you need to go to your GP. (Having said that I did mine at Boots - my GP was going to give me it but he had a 2 month waiting list!!! - so I lied on the form).

morethemerrier · 15/02/2012 10:06

I had it back in November too, no side effects tiny needle barely felt it!

Generally I don't get ill but the thing that sold it for me was, as the above poster said it gives (6?) months immunity to baby which can only be a good thing!

If it is still available I would have it. HTH Grin

My midwife recommended I have the flu jab at my booking in two weeks ago, so I called the surgery and they had a couple of vaccinations left.
I had it last week. It is perfectly safe. I guess I just thought, do I fancy being pregnant and having flu for a week? errr not really, so I went ahead.

If your surgery have any left, go for it, but I wouldn't waste any time worrying about it if they don't.

nannyn · 15/02/2012 10:15

I had it & boy was I glad. just 2 weeks ago my DD & DH had flu & we're really ill. Fever for 3 days straight & 10 days before they felt well. I would have ended up in hospital if I'd had it. Thanks to the flu jab all I had was a runny nose!

moregranny · 15/02/2012 10:40

Definately have it, you will be covered until next Feb/March, You dont want flu whilst pregnant or with a tiny baby, x

Lucylucy57 · 15/02/2012 10:57

I had it when I was 8 weeks and felt no side effects at all. I work in schools and universities - always havens for flu germs! For the first year in about 5 I havent had flu or a nasty cold at all.

MammaInTheMaking · 15/02/2012 11:51

I had it last week at 23 weeks. GP had called me twice to say I should come in for it. Bit late in the season but I suppose you can catch flu whenever. I didn't even feel it go in.

HardCheese · 15/02/2012 12:04

I had it at about 15 weeks with no side-effects and no problems, as I work in a university and a large, overheated lecture theatre full of sniffing, coughing students on a damp winter's day is like a huge virus bank...

AlexTasha · 15/02/2012 12:24

I had it in December and havent had a cold all winter. Brilliant!

Zay04 · 15/02/2012 12:26

I had it, was really worried out side effects but did not get any. They say if you get flu while preggars its really tough on the baby.

OooohShiny · 15/02/2012 12:39

Yep, i had it a few days ago. I was in getting a bp check with the nurse and she offered it. She said that it ws offered up until about April

Mechavivzilla · 15/02/2012 12:46

I had mine about two weeks ago. It was a very tiny injection, so no trauma there, but I did end up feeling off for about 5 days afterwards. I would say it was totally worth in. A high temperature, like you can get from flu, is really dangerous to unborn babies and the jab gives the little one antibodies for after it is born.

JUJUBUG · 15/02/2012 12:53

Thank you :)

Hi all,
I have read on NHS website that I should have the flu jab (and I do get flu about every year)- but my surgery has run out. My midwife said not to worry, but should I?!

If so where else could I get it?

Cheers

ButteryJam · 01/03/2013 14:06

I wasn't offered it but I really think I should have been. I suffered with flu for over 10-12 weeks during my pregnancy.

Dannilion · 01/03/2013 15:35

I had it at the end of November, so glad I did as there was a massive outbreak at work so much so we had to 'quarantine' everybody in their bedrooms, and I was the only member of staff who got off without even a sniffle!

Spoonful · 01/03/2013 15:45

I had it and my arm bloody ached for days. Worth it though!

Ra88 · 01/03/2013 15:53

I had mine last week , over in a second bit I did get a bruised arm for a few days and I was abit knocked about on the day after .. Some people have no effects though

worsestershiresauce · 01/03/2013 15:57

I had it and it was definitely worth it. After getting a nasty chest infection in early pregnancy I was pretty keen to avoid flu. Your immune systems is depressed during pregnancy so you are susceptible to every bug going.

fl0b0t · 01/03/2013 17:23

Thanks all,.anyone know HOW I GO ABOUT getting it? (oops caps)

AliceWChild · 01/03/2013 17:27

Isn't the flu season over? I guess that's why they don't have it.

fl0b0t · 01/03/2013 18:33

I believe so, but it doesn't mean you can't get flu :(
