Bugger - protein test

Just back from 28-week midwife appointment - ++ on my urine sample for protein. Bugger bugger bugger! I do have thrush at the moment - adding insult to injury - so that could be all it is, but the midwife wants to see me next week to make sure it isn't anything more sinister.

Has anyone had this before? Was it all ok in the end?

Hi - I have had this several times in this pregnancy. Sent off sample to the lab, twice thrush diagnosed that I wasn't really aware of. Other times it meant nothing, twice it meant a UTI so antibiotics. Hope all goes well next week.

As far as I'm aware it's quite common to get a false reading, for instance if there was any discharge in the sample that would throw it. Or it could be a UTI. So don't panic yet!

Hi Milder, I had my 28 week appointment yesterday and had some protein in my urine but also leucocytes (as well as glucose, so off for gtt tomorrow :( ) so the midwife thinks it could be a urine infection that I had that has come back. She didn't seem worried so I hope it is okay

was it a fresh sample or one you had done at home and taken in? I tested + last week and slightly raised blood pressure so they sent me off to the day assessment unit at the hospital and when they used a fresh sample (MW at the hospital likes it warm!) it was clear - she said that sometimes things can be picked up if the sample is not fresh. Also my BP dropped over the course of the couple of hours that we were there and when they monitored baby's heart everything was fine. Hopefully it's just a 'red herring' like mine was (oh I'm 37 weeks).
