Hey ladies - was hoping someone could shine a bit of light on the situation. Its nothin too excitin but jus wonderin if its worth seein the gp or midwife about.

For the past couple of weeks i have been gettin joint pain in the tops of my legs n hips and lower back. I sit at a desk for most of the day (which am not used to anyway) and struggle to stand without wincing in pain and then it takes me a bit to start walkin properly (as opposed to lookin like john wayne)

Just wondered if anyone else experienced this and if u hav any tips?!

Thanks :-)

Yep sounds normal, I had an acupuncture session and it totally sorted it out, I was in agony with it.

Other things that apparently work are swimming bouncing on a fitness ball, a belly belt to support bump & sleeping with a pillow between your knees - I personally didn't get relief from any of these.
I would mention it to your midwife as there is a condition (can't think what's it's caused) that causes hip pain, but it's more than likely your ligaments relaxing, pelvis stretching and your hips not being used to the extra weight.
Your midwife can refer you to a maternity pysio if it's bad but If u can afford to do it I would highly recommend acupuncture Smile

im no medic so gt it confirmed but sounds like spd, basically as the previous poster said pelvic ligament related pains. again justhayley has mentioned some pain relief techs. i had it with all 3 kids and it got worse wih each one i had, the pillow between legs helped a bit especially with 1st child but with the others progressively not. also pillow can make u feel hot and its not easy to sleep like that.

ive been told swimming is good but i couldnt do that, if ur up for it try it,

midwifes can give medication to help, i never asked because with the first 2 the midwives gave me the impressiom it was something i was going to have to grit and bare. but you dont have to suffer in silence. seriously i was in tears, and i did not cry in labour. obviously labour pain is worse but its over in a few hours or less for me. but spd pain lingers its torturous, if they seem reluctant to help make a fuss see ur doc if midwife doesnt help,

i was in the midlands with 1st two kids midwife said wiating list for physio so long id be having the baby before they saw me. she never offered me any drugs. so yes i did cry through it for months, just getting into a car was excruciating. but with my 3rd child was up north, theyre wonderful here, no waiting list for preg women needing physio get instant access.

not used them yet...my pain is more on the hips and backside this time but ive been told its still spd. with the others it was the back, hips, pelvis. the back is bad especially for sleep.

1 thing i noticed though a gentle walk just few paces even if you cant make it to the bottom of the road helps. i find when im standing in 1 spot i.e preparing stuff for cooking or sat down for more than 5 mins i begin to hurt more when i do try and walk.

if ur up for it a hard floor is better for sleeping on if things get worse for you. least thats what i did. ii ditched the bed and husband for the last few months. not many preg women wana curl up to partners when theyre heavily preg do they? not me anyway, it was bliss for me s bit of me time. quality sleep well sort of i mean its hell sleeping with a pillow between legs innthe middle of summer.

try not to spread legs too wide. sit down when putting on shoes and socks, even out your weight always to prevent pain. keep legs together as much as possible when getting in and out of vehicles. stairs avoid when u need to go up do so one at a time.

dont over do it, ditch the housework as much as possible someone else can do it or it can wait.

hot bath or long hot shower twice or more a day. (yes im a ocd freak) but the extra baths really help a lot. maybe the warmth in the joints?

you tale it easy wih u the very bes eith pregnancy snd labour

Thats great ladies thank you!! I will start off by trying swimming (might aswell use my gym membership!) and invest in one of them gym balls as i hear they are quite handy in labour too! I am seeing the midwife next week so will mention it then. I have heard of spd but i wasnt sure if i was a bit early to be suffering as i am only 21+3!

Thanks again ladies all advice is appreciated and welcomed! Gunna get that nice warm shower now hehe :-)
